NZ has a more curved horizon because it's further south?
I've seen pretty good rural roads in NZ (it's a great source of cash for some contractors, basically an employment scheme).
But I agree because the camber of the road is too flat. NZ roads almost universally have a steeper camber even on long flat sections.
