You are blaming people under mind control for not being aware of the mind control. It would seem far more productive, to me, to target the systems of mind control, rather than try to argue with people under mind control.
Comey is one of the smarter ones among them. He is trying to distance himself from the obviously failing narrative of Russian collusion. He was for it when those in charge of it were favored in the betting odds and was instrumental in making it stick.
Now that it is flying apart and this may have been one of his only criminal endeavors (may…), He is willing to kind of cut his losses.
Those who are an entire lifetime of criminal subversion and treason… Are committed. They have no choice but to somehow salvage the assault on Trump.
