That's not exactly proof that they have been in touch with Q, more likely someone with clearance to classified information contacted them and like they said didn't want to use their means to information to take them down as it would result in them loosing ways of finding spies and possible terrorists. My guess someone from the NSA, what other 3 letter agency has that sort of information and actually wants to defend the nation from bad actors and traitors? So obviously someone high up, but not exactly Q either, my guess is this guy had… an idea that maybe it would be best to have real investigative reporters do some digging while civilians were doing what they could here also.
