Khashoggi's Kids Have Received Multi-Million Dollar Homes, Massive Payouts From Saudi Governmment

Apparently, despite the Saudis alleged leaking of Jeff Bezos' intimate texts as retribution for his newspaper's aggressive coverage of the Khashoggi murder, the Amazon founder has remained unfazed, and on Tuesday, the Washington Post published its latest scoop in the ongoing saga of murder and deception.

As the international outcry over Khashoggi's killing, and the suspected involvement of Saudi Crown Prince MbS, continues to fade, WaPo reports that the kingdom has provided generous financial settlements to Khashoggi's children, including multi-million dollar homes and five-figure monthly payouts, in what the paper describes as an arrangement to keep them from speaking out against the Kingdom.

In addition, the two sons and two daughters of the slain former government insider-turned-dissident - whom the kingdom has said was accidentally murdered during a botched rendition attempt inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul (though WaPo's reporting has established that US intelligence believes MbS personally ordered the hit) - could receive a payout worth tens of millions of dollars in a "blood money" settlement - that is, if they're willing to forgive their father's alleged killers.

If the men are convicted and sentenced to death, the Saudi system of justice could allow the Khashoggi family members to grant their father’s killers clemency as part of a "blood money" arrangement in which they might then be entitled to tens of millions of dollars.

It is unclear whether Khashoggi’s children would be required to forgive or absolve the killers to collect the payments.

Former Saudi officials and experts said that the royal court and government have incentives to seek such an agreement and avoid a situation in which only low-level operatives are executed for their role in a plot that was developed and orchestrated from high levels of government.

House Democrats have repeatedly blocked anti-infanticide vote. Republicans just made the next play to force their hands.

'The country's watching'

House Republicans officially launched their effort to force a vote on a high-profile anti-infanticide bill Tuesday, while calling for a national effort to pressure Democrats to their side.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) introduced what's known as a discharge petition on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act to force members of the lower chamber to show the American people where they stand on the issue of infanticide.

Previously, House Democrats have blocked more than two dozen Republican efforts to bring the bill to the floor. A discharge petition is an end run around the majority party's power to dictate the floor schedule and bring a bill up for debate and a vote without leadership's consent.

The key challenge to this strategy is that collecting 218 signatures will mean courting 21 Democrats, when only three of the party's current House members broke ranks for a pro-life vote last session.

However, Scalise says that he was ready for this challenge.

"We need to get to 218, so it's going to take a national effort," Scalise said at a Tuesday morning news conference. "But the country's watching.

"People say it should be easy to get 218 signatures," the minority whip continued. "Frankly, it should be easy to get all 435 members of Congress to sign this, but it's not. In fact, It's going to be hard. We know it's an uphill battle."

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) pointed out that a successful petition would eliminate the ability of House members to "hide behind Democratic leadership" on the issue because "whoever was holding the gavel denied the ability for the bill to come up."

While more staunchly pro-abortion members of Congress from safely Democratic districts would have little problem voting against the bill politically, a floor vote on the issue would put members from more moderate districts — especially those that flipped to blue in November — in a much tougher position.

Tuesday morning, Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) announced that he would sign the petition and urged his Democratic colleagues to break with their party and join him.

"Now, more than ever, the American people need clarification — where exactly does the Democratic Party stand on the issue of abortion? Are they really comfortable letting already born infants die?" a statement from Green's office said. "This is not a trifling matter."

Pro-life activists also attended Monday's news conference and similarly urged House members to get the bill to the floor while excoriating Democratic leaders for blocking it.

"Shame on Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats for repeatedly refusing to allow a vote on this compassionate, common-ground bill," Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement.

"Democratic Party leaders have doubled down on extremism," Dannenfelser added. "Their agenda is radically out of step even within their own rank and file … the American people deserve to know where their representatives stand on infanticide."

Democrats Block $13.5 Billion Disaster Relief Because It Didn’t Include Enough Money For Puerto Rico

Senate Democrats blocked a $13.5 billion bill for disaster relief from recent floods, hurricanes and wildfires on Monday, arguing that the more than $600 million provided to Puerto Rico was not nearly enough.

The disaster relief package combined aid for a variety of natural disasters the country experienced, including support to southern farmers, California towns hit by wildfires and mudslides and states such as Georgia, Florida and North Carolina that were hit by hurricanes. The legislation would also provide funding to rebuild military bases in Florida and North Carolina that were destroyed during the hurricanes.

Republican Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby amended the text to give Puerto Rico $610 million in nutrition assistance, however, Democrats argue Puerto Rico needs additional funds to bolster flood protection and repair the electrical grid, reported Bloomberg.

The disaster relief package was voted down by a vote of 44 to 49, falling short of the needed 60-vote supermajority to overcome the Democratic filibuster.

“I have never been more frustrated as a United States Senator than I am right now. This is pure partisan politics,” Republican Georgia Sen. David Perdue, who sponsored the legislation, tweeted following the vote.

“Washington has reached a new low — it’s been nearly six months since Hurricane Michael ravaged Georgia and other states across the country, and Congress has failed to help the very people it claims to represent,” Perdue later said in a statement. “President [Donald] Trump reached across the aisle, along with other Republicans, to compromise on disaster relief, but only one Democrat was willing to work with us.”

“Do not be fooled — Senate Democrats are using farmers in the Southeast and the people of Puerto Rico as pawns in their political game,” he continued. “It is hypocritical that Democrats say they want to help Puerto Rico recover, and yet they obstruct this disaster relief.”

Tom Cotton Pushes IRS to Investigate Southern Poverty Law Center’s Tax-Exempt Status

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is pressing the IRS to investigate the tax-exempt status of leftist group Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an organization that has been mired in scandal as of late.

Cotton argues that a series of recent reports regarding the leftist group’s patently political activities are troubling, and in a letter to the head of the IRS provided to Breitbart News exclusively ahead of its public release questions whether these actions warrant removal of the group’s status as a nonprofit organization.

“I am writing to urge you to investigate whether the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) should retain its classification as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,” Cotton wrote in the Tuesday letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig. “Recent news reports have confirmed the long-established fact that the SPLC regularly engages in defamation of its political opponents. In fact, the SPLC’s defining characteristic is to fundraise off of defamation.”

Cotton noted in the letter to the IRS commissioner, citing SPLC financial documents, that the leftist organization has made lots of money by targeting conservative groups with allegations that they are hate groups–regardless of the veracity of such allegations.

“This business model has paid well. The SPLC has accrued more than $500 million in assets,” Cotton wrote. “According to the group’s most recent financial statement, it holds $121 million offshore in non-U.S. equity funds. The SPLC uses these assets to pay its executives lavish salaries far higher than the comparable household average.”

Cotton’s letter cites a number of recent investigative reports by the media into SPLC’s standards and culture, including a recently-published CNN expose that found racism and sexism running rampant throughout the leftist group’s organizational structure.

“Famous civil rights group suffers from ‘systemic culture of racism and sexism,’ staffers say,” was the headline in CNN’s March 29 article by Nick Valencia and Pamela Kirkland.

“Some employees at the Southern Poverty Law Center say the legendary civil rights nonprofit group suffers from a ‘systemic culture of racism and sexism within its workplace,'” Valencia and Kirkland wrote. “The SPLC, which has been on the front line of the fight against racial inequality and injustice in the United States since 1971, has been thrust into chaos after allegations over its treatment of minority and female employees. The claims have been followed by changes in its leadership and a company-wide review.”

Cotton also cites a New York Times report from Alan Blinder published on March 22 that Cotton noted described the SPLC as “in turmoil” while citing SPLC employee claims that the organization and its leadership are “complicit in decades of racial discrimination, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment and/or assault.” Both Richard Cohen, the organization’s president, and Morris Dees, the organization’s co-founder, have been pushed out in recent days amid all of the scandal–and the SPLC has named an interim president to lead the group for now.

UK lawmakers reject all alternative Brexit options

None of the alternative options to Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan has managed to receive the support of a majority of lawmakers, prolonging the political deadlock in the UK.

Motion C, Customs Union, which called for a commitment to negotiate a “permanent and comprehensive UK-wide customs union with the EU,” lost by 276 to 273 votes.

Motion D, Common Market 2.0, which asked for continued participation in the single market and a “comprehensive customs arrangement” with the EU after Brexit, lost by 282 to 261 votes.

Motion E, which asked for a public vote to confirm any Brexit deal passed by parliament before its ratification, also lost on Monday night by 292 to 280 votes.

Motion G, which urged revoking Article 50 in the face of a no-deal Brexit, lost by 292 to 191 votes.

After yet another attempt by the British PM failed to break the Brexit impasse, the UK now increasingly risks crashing out of the EU on April 12 without a deal. The UK lawmakers are set to hold another round of so-called “indicative votes” on Wednesday, before EU leaders hold an emergency summit on April 10 to consider London's request for an extension of Article 50.

Algeria's President Bouteflika resigns after weeks of protests

Algeria’s long-serving President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has resigned. Bouteflika’s resignation was originally slated to occur before the end of April, and comes after years of declining health.

Under the Algerian constitution, Abdelkader Bensaleh, chairman of the upper house of parliament, will take over as interim president until fresh elections are held.

After two decades in power, Bouteflika had recently come under pressure to resign since he announced in February he would seek a fifth term in office. Bouteflika dropped his re-election bid in March, after weeks of protests, and said he would step down instead.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has just completed its annual summit in Washington. It claims that 18,000 supporters attended the event, which concluded with a day of lobbying Congress by the attendees. Numerous American politicians addressed the gathering and it is completely reasonable to observe that the meeting constituted the most powerful gathering of people dedicated to promoting the interests of a foreign nation ever witnessed in any country in the history of the world.

There are a number of things that one should understand about the Jewish state of Israel and its powerful American domestic lobby. First of all, the charge that the actions of The Lobby (referred to with capital letters because of its uniqueness and power) inevitably involves dual or even singular allegiance based on religion or tribe to a country where the lobbyist does not actually reside is completely correct by definition of what AIPAC is and why it exists. It claims to work to “ensure that the Jewish state is safe, strong and secure” through “foreign aid, government partnerships, [and] joint anti-terrorism efforts…,” all of which involve the U.S. as the donor and Israel as the recipient.

Being a citizen of a country is not just an accident of birth. It requires loyalty to the interests of that country and to one’s fellow citizens. No two countries have identical interests, something that is particularly true when one is considering Israel, an ethno-religious autocracy, and the United States, where The Lobby works assiduously to compel American government at all levels to adopt positions that are beneficial to Israel and almost invariably harmful to U.S. interests. Asserting that the two nations have nearly identical interests is little more than a fraud.

Second, there is the claim that Israel benefits American security. That is also a lie. Washington’s relationship with Israel, which is now more subservient than it ever has been, is a major liability that is and always has been damaging to both American regional and global interests. The recent decisions to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights were ill-conceived and have been condemned by the world community, including by nearly all of America’s genuine close allies.

The harm done by the Israeli connection to policy formulation in Washington and to U.S. troops based in the Middle East has been noted both by Admiral Thomas Moorer and General David Petraeus, with Moorer decrying how “If the American people understood what a grip those people have got on our government, they would rise up in arms. Our citizens certainly don’t have any idea what goes on.” Petraeus complained to a Senate Committee that U.S. favoritism towards Israel puts American soldiers based in the Middle East at risk. He was quickly forced to recant, however.

Russian banks join Chinese alternative to SWIFT payment system

Several Russian banks have joined the China International Payments System (CIPS), to ease operations between the two countries, according to a senior official at the Central Bank of Russia (CBR).

“As for the cooperation on payment systems, a range of banks are already connected to CIPS, allowing to facilitate payments routing procedure,” Vladimir Shapovalov, who heads a division dealing with foreign regulators at the CBR’s international cooperation department, said earlier this week during the international Russian-Chinese forum.

Russia is actively demonstrating the SPFS network, which was created in 2014 in response US threats of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT, to foreign partners, including China after its export version was finished late last year. The first system transaction involving a non-bank enterprise, was made by Russian oil major Rosneft in December 2017. Some 500 participants, with major Russian financial institutions and companies, have already joined.Meanwhile, the regulator hopes that Chinese counterparts pay more attention to Russia’s own SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) alternative, SPFS (System for Transfer of Financial Messages), as it can further boost bilateral trade, the official added.

SWIFT is an international payment network that allows information about financial transactions to be sent and received around the globe. Over 11,000 financial institutions in more than 200 countries are connected to the network.On Thursday, the CBR announced that the Russian alternative to SWIFT made “significant progress” as it already complies with international standards and foreign players can be integrated in it. Some foreign banks already joined the SPFS, according to the CBR deputy governor Ksenia Yudaeva.

Up front, I must admit I have conflicts of interest in writing this article. I eat about 95% to 98% organically-grown food, mostly all fresh, too! That’s the extent of my “conflict of interest,” since I do not advertise any brands or products, and never have in my professional career.

However, in the 1990s, my late husband and I were on a bus trip for seniors and we had a ‘pit stop’ at one of those places. Boy, did I have a hard time getting eggs scrambled in butter!

Over the years the chemicalization of air, water and food has been nothing to sneeze at—literally or figuratively! According to The Telegraph News, the Number of toxic chemicals applied to vegetables has risen 17 fold since the 1960s was published November 27, 2017.

Al Jazeera has obtained exclusive footage that proves the presence of child soldiers in the recruitment camps of the Saudi-UAE-led coalition fighting in Yemen.

The children, desperately poor, are being recruited to fight along the Saudi border to defend it from the Houthis, a rebel group that overran the capital, Sanaa, and large swaths of Yemen's northwest in 2014.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) formed a coalition to overthrow the Houthis - plunging Yemen into a ruinous war - supported by forces loyal to the country's internationally recognised government.

The conflict has created the world's worst humanitarian crisis, pushing Yemen to the brink of famine and leaving about 80 percent of its population - 24 million people - in need of humanitarian assistance.

However, many children face an even worse reality: being recruited by either warring side to fight in the conflict. According to the United Nations, two-thirds of the child soldiers in Yemen fight for the Houthis. The others fight for the Saudi-UAE-led coalition.

Although Yemen and Saudi Arabia signed the international protocol banning involvement of children in armed conflict in 2007 and 2011, respectively, at the end of 2018, Saudi Arabia was accused of recruiting Sudanese children from Darfur to fight on its behalf in Yemen.

Today, Yemeni children are being recruited using local trafficking networks to defend the Saudi border.

Bereaved families interviewed by Al Jazeera questioned why the coalition would need to recruit children to fight in its war. Al Jazeera investigated these claims.

'The View' hosts say they want Joe Biden to continue smelling women's hair and kissing them

The women of "The View" don't think much of the accusations made against Joe Biden of inappropriate behavior with women, and several said they wanted him to continue smelling women's hair and kissing them without asking.

"Joe is a hands on kind of guy!" said Whoopi Goldberg, who asked why the accuser couldn't have simply asked him to stop touching her.

Biden was accused by a former Nevada lawmaker of smelling her hair and kissing her in a way that made her very uncomfortable. She cited other examples of inappropriate behavior from Biden in her statement.

"It's a long way from smelling your hair to grabbing your hoo-ha!" said Behar. "I mean let's tell the truth."

Behar went on to say that Biden is a "close talker," and that she believed him because they are friends.

"I think it would be really unfortunate if we got rid of everyone who's just an affection person, you know?" she added.

"I've had concerns about the 'Me Too' movement from the beginning," said Abby Huntsman. "About getting to this place where you can't have normal interactions with each other."

She also asked if the motive behind the accusations was that the accuser wanted someone else to win the presidential nomination.

"But are we going to get to a place where we can't shake hands?" she asked. "I worry about that. I do."

Sunny Hostin added that there was a power dynamic with the former vice president taking advantage of his political position, but then she praised his response to the accusations. She said maybe they'll stop seeing Biden smelling women's hair or kisses on the forehead.

"That pisses me off," objected Whoopi Goldberg. "Well I don't want Joe to stop doing that!"

Meghan McCain agreed and questioned the movies of the accuser because she had supported Bernie Sanders.

Goldberg added that she was suspicious of the woman's motives because it took so long to make her accusations known. This has been specifically cited as a problematic argument against accusers by "Me Too" movement advocates.
