‘Bitch-fight’ between Evil Juncker and Orbán: “Nationalism can lead to war”

Jean-Claude Juncker told Italy’s public tv channel RAI1 that he doesn’t care about the Hungarian government’s campaign against him, but he is bothered by Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s xenophobia, hostility towards foreigners.

According to European Commission’s president, such nationalism can lead to war.

Answering a question by ATV.hu, Orban said that “someone who unveiled a statue of Marx shouldn’t be lecturing anyone about xenophobia, because the master of xenophobia was called Karl Marx”.

Earlier yesterday Fidesz vice-chair and state secretary for family and youth Katalin Novak spoke about Fidesz’s relations to the EPP. She’s heading the “group of wise people”established by Fidesz. Novak said she will contact the EPP’s “three wise man” and provide them detailed information about various topics. Her job is to prepare a report to Fidesz about whether they should stay with the EPP after the elections.

Also in Magyar Nemzet, well-known pro-Fidesz journalist Zsolt Bayer urged the ruling to leave the EPP as soon as possible and called Manfred Weber a coward, miserable person. kek.

Notables. Great Bolton article.

Letter: Here's to the empire.

John Bolton: "We're in conversation with major American companies now that are either in Venezuela or, in the case of Citgo, here in the United States. I think we're trying to get to the same end result here. You know, Venezuela is one of the three countries I call the troika of tyranny. It will make a big difference to the United States economically if we could have American oil companies really invest in and produce the oil capabilities in Venezuela. It'd be good for the people of Venezuela. It'd be good for the people of the United States." — Interview with Trish Regan of Fox News.

Bolton's candor regarding American plans for Venezuela was rather refreshing and there is nothing charitable in these plans. With the mask firmly pulled aside Bolton has exposed the empire in all its sordid glory. We need not worry about trying to hide all our other shenanigans, as there are too many skeletons — and why should we worry? No longer will we have to endure the pathetic justifications like WMDs and the empire can now simply announce which resources in which country it wishes to steal.

AS NATO TURNS 70, ITS BIGGEST CHALLENGE COMES FROM WITHIN.

NATO turns 70 years old this week. To mark the event, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will deliver a speech in front of a joint session of Congress later today. It's the first such speech by a NATO chief, and it comes as the trans-Atlantic military alliance – which has already outlived the Soviet Union by nearly three decades – faces what may be its toughest challenge yet.

Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has been dogged by a crisis of purpose. What should its role be after the disappearance of its main foe? Protecting former Soviet states from Russia? Combatting terrorism? Fighting new battles in cyberspace?

But recently the alliance has been wrestling with an even more fundamental challenge: fading support from the United States, its most important member. Mr. Stoltenberg is trying to use his trip to Washington to boost American engagement.

Here are his three main audiences and what he hopes to accomplish with each:
