FBI Refuses FOIA Request For Emails Sent From CNN Analyst and Former Comey Aide Josh Campbell Just Before Roger Stone Raid

The FBI on Tuesday rejected a FOIA request from The Federalist for emails sent to and from CNN the day of the pre-dawn raid of Roger Stone where CNN just so happened to be camping out.

“Please provide all e-mails sent to or received from any account with a ‘cnn.com’ domain from January 24, 2019 through January 25, 2019,” The Federalist wrote in its FOIA request.

CNN just so happened to be hanging around with a full camera crew at Roger Stone’s Fort Lauderdale, Florida home prior to the FBI arriving to conduct a pre-dawn raid of the Trump confidante’s home.

CNN was the only camera crew on the scene of the FBI raid on Roger Stone’s home — they claimed it was just a hunch and good instincts that led them to Stone’s home the morning of the raid.

“It’s reporter’s instinct,” Shortell said shortly after the raid, according to the Washington Examiner.

The FBI justified its refusal to provide documents requested by The Federalist by claiming the request was “overly broad.”

In a letter to The Federalist justifying its refusal to provide the request records, the FBI claimed that the request for emails to and from a specific domain sent or received on two specific dates was “overly broad,” did not provide “enough detail to enable personnel to locate” the records, and sought information in “vague and undefined terms.” The FBI further claimed that the underlying request itself, which specified both the date and the sender’s or recipient’s email domain, did not comply with federal regulations regarding requests for information made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

In a separate FOIA request, The Federalist specifically asked for any and all FBI emails on the day of Stone’s raid sent to/from Josh Campbell.

Recall, Josh Campbell (pictured below) is James Comey’s former FBI-aide-turned-law-enforcement analyst for CNN.

Zuck'd Again: Millions Of Facebook Records Found On Amazon Cloud Servers

Facebook shares tumbled into the red after Bloomberg reported that user data is still showing up in places it shouldn’t.

As Bloomberg reports, researchers at UpGuard, a cybersecurity firm, found troves of user information hiding in plain sight, inadvertently posted publicly on Amazon.com’s cloud computing servers.

The discovery shows that a year after the Cambridge Analytica scandal exposed how unsecure and widely disseminated Facebook users’ information is online, companies that control that information at every step still haven’t done enough to seal up private data.

China refutes reports of sending troops to Venezuela to help Maduro

Beijing has dismissed reports that it sent a cohort of soldiers to Venezuela along with a shipment of humanitarian aid.

A shipment of 65 tons of Chinese medicine reached Caracas on Friday. Venezuelan Vice President Tareck El Aissami welcomed the aid flight, and praised the “important and strategic level” of the partnership between Beijing and Caracas.

However, unconfirmed reports stated that a deployment of more than 120 Chinese People’s Liberation Army soldiers accompanied the aid flight, bringing military supplies for President Nicolas Maduro’s forces.

Beijing, however, denies sending troops to Venezuela. Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters on Tuesday

"I don't know where you got this information or for what purpose was it produced, but I can tell you this: what you said is simply not true," he said at a briefing.

“The Chinese government's position on the Venezuela issue is consistent and clear-cut,” Shuang continued, adding that China opposes “external interference in Venezuela's internal affairs, and believe the country's government and opposition need to seek a political solution through peaceful dialogue.”

The reports come less than two weeks after Russian military personnel arrived in Venezuela. The deployment, carried out under the terms of a 2001 cooperation treaty between Moscow and Caracas, set alarm bells ringing in Washington.

US President Donald Trump announced that Russia “must get out” of Venezuela, and warned “all options are open” when it comes to a US response. The Russian Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, insisted that the deployment was carried out "in strict accordance with the constitution of that country and with full respect for its legal norms,” and Kremlin spokeswoman Maria Zakharova shot back at Trump, advising Washington to “fulfill the promises that it had given to the international community” and withdraw from Syria first.

Here Is The Striking Discovery From Bloomberg's Investigation Of YouTube

According to a lengthy investigation by Bloomberg on Google's struggle to maximize profit while addressing calls to censor 'toxic' material, a rogue employee decided to ignore the advice of corporate attorneys and created a new "vertical" category to internally track so-called "alt-right" content - described as "the political ensemble loosely tied to Trump."

What they found was fascinating; alt-right videos are an absolute monster category for the video-hosting platform, right up with "music, sports and gaming" as the most popular.

One telling moment happened around early 2018, according to two people familiar with it. An employee decided to create a new YouTube “vertical,” a category that the company uses to group its mountain of video footage. This person gathered together videos under an imagined vertical for the “alt-right,” the political ensemble loosely tied to Trump. Based on engagement, the hypothetical alt-right category sat with music, sports and gaming as the most popular channels at YouTube, an attempt to show how critical these videos were to YouTube’s business. -Bloomberg

Three days after the 2016 US election, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and her staff convened for their weekly meeting, where one employee "fretted aloud about the site's election-related videos that were watched the most," as they were "dominated by publishers like Breitbart News and Infowars, which were known for outrage and provocation."

Obviously providing a watering hole for conservatives - which Bloomberg and Google can't help but associate with 'toxic' content - is highly profitable. On social media platform Reddit, pro-Trump forum "The_Donald" is roughly the 264th largest "subreddit" by size, while ranked #3 in terms of user activity on the site, according to "redditlist."

Democrats vote to subpoena Mueller report over Republican objections

Here we go.

Democratic efforts to compel the release of the Mueller report to Congress from the Department of Justice ended as expected on Wednesday, but not without vocal pushback from Republicans.

A meeting of the House Judiciary Committee resulted in a party-line 24 to 17 vote to authorize a subpoena of special counsel Robert Mueller's report of his investigation and all the underlying evidence from Attorney General William Barr.

"Why are we here?" asked Judiciary member and Oversight Committee ranking member Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). "Seems to me we're here because the Mueller report wasn't what the Democrats thought it was going to be.

"In fact, it was just the opposite," Jordan continued. "What'd the attorney general tell us that the principal findings of Mr. Mueller's report were? No new indictments, no sealed indictments, no collusion, no obstruction."

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) also called out Democratic efforts to keep digging into the issue, despite the findings of the Mueller report.

"Enough is enough, for heaven's sakes, let's please move on," Gohmert said, before turning his critiques directly to committee chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.).

"There was a time when I loved and appreciated the current chairman's desire to protect privacy rights; I saw that dramatically eroded during the Obama administration," Gohmert continued. "But I am still hoping and praying that our now-chairman's once great desire to protect privacy rights and to try to hold back the bounds of what Orwell described as happening now … it's time to go back and clean up the mess that's been made over years of abuse."

The committee's top Republican took issue with Democrats' demand for underlying evidence, saying that Barr would have to violate federal law to comply with it.

"The subpoena for the Mueller report and its underlying evidence commands the attorney general to do what the unthinkable is," said committee ranking member Doug Collins (R-Ga.). "We're going to ask the attorney general to break his regulations, to break the law."

"The attorney general's entire mandate is to enforce the law, and he's expressly forbidden from providing grand jury [material] outside of the department, [with] very limited and narrow exceptions," Collins added. "Congress is not one of the exceptions and the chairman knows it."

A few weeks ago, the House of Representatives voted almost unanimously to make as much of the report public as possible, though a small handful of Republicans objected to the resolution by voting "present."

Barr told congressional leaders last week that he plans to release what he can of the report and that he expects his department "will be in a position to release the report by mid-April, if not sooner."

In his opening statement, Nadler said that he won't issue the report right away, but will instead give Barr a chance to "change his mind" about whether to send a redacted or unredacted report to Congress.

Macron own goal? Twitter blocks govt ad campaign to comply with French fake-news law

An ad campaign launched by the French government to encourage people to register to vote has hit an embarrassing snag: Twitter won’t run the ads, as the company fears they may violate the new French law targeting fake news.

The Elysee hoped to inspire citizens to register to vote in the European elections ahead of the upcoming deadline by paying for sponsored tweets promoting the hashtag #OuiJeVote (Yes, I Vote). But the seemingly innocuous ad campaign faced an unexpected hurdle: France’s recently-passed anti-fake-news legislation, which places strict rules on online political campaigns. The law states that all political ads must indicate who paid for them and how much was spent.

Fearing that the ad may violate the law passed by President Emmanuel Macron’s own government, Twitter refused to run the ad.

The decision stunned French lawmakers and officials.

“I thought it was an April Fools!” tweeted MP Naima Moutchou.

Interior Minister Christophe Castanter expressed similar disbelief.

“Twitter’s priority should be to fight content that glorifies terrorism. Not campaigns to register on the electoral lists of a democratic republic,” he wrote.

The French law, which was enacted in December, stipulates that information about the person or company who pays for an ad must be available in an easily accessible database.

State Passes Bill To Seize Guns Based on Entirely ‘Unchallenged’ Accusations, With NO Due Process

Officials in Colorado have passed a disturbing law that will allow police to confiscate people's weapons based solely on unchallenged accusations from others.

In February of 2018, after the tragic shooting in Parkland, FL, President Donald Trump took to national television to betray his oath to the Constitution and his supporters and famously said, “take the guns first, go through due process second.” While this was largely ignored by his base and downplayed in the media, since then—that’s exactly what’s been happening.

As politicians and anti-gun rights activists continuously chant, “we don’t want to take your guns,” behind the scenes — in only the year — politicians have been working overtime to limit your right to bear arms.

In just the first six months after the shooting in Parkland and the president’s statement, the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence recorded a whopping 55 new gun control measures in 26 states. That number is now far greater as states pass “red flag” gun laws to literally do what Trump advocated for in Feb. 2018. They are taking the guns first and seeking due process second.

Colorado just became the 15th state to pass such a law and if it is signed by the governor—which it will be—Colorado citizens will be subject to laws which allow their guns to be seized without them having any say in it whatsoever.

Citizens who are targeted by the law will be deemed guilty first and only after their guns are taken, will they have a chance to defend themselves in court. This is the de facto removal of due process.

As Reuters reports, under the legislation, a family member or law enforcement officer could petition a judge to seize firearms from a person they think is a threat to themselves or others. The judge could then hold a hearing without the targeted person being present and grant a temporary order for 14 days.

Under the fifth and fourteenth amendments, due process clauses are in place to act as a safeguard from arbitrary denial of life, liberty, or property by the government outside the sanction of law.

In spite of what officials and the media claim, when a person is stripped of their constitutional rights, albeit temporarily, without being given the chance to make their own case based on what can be entirely arbitrary accusations, this is the removal of due process. This is exactly what is happening in Colorado.

This new law is so egregious that even the National Rifle Association (NRA) is speaking out, despite their silence in the face of other “red flag” laws.

“Unchallenged statements made by a petitioner before a judge … would be sufficient for law enforcement to enter that person’s home and confiscate their private property,” the NRA said in a statement.

What’s more, the overwhelming majority of elected sheriffs in the state—50 out of 62—have been outspoken against this measure. According to Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams, this law also puts cops in danger because they’d be showing up unannounced to steal people’s guns despite no crime having been committed.

Despite the resistance from law enforcement, the bill’s head sponsor disagrees.

DHS Secretary Nielsen Says Border Smugglers Have ‘Child Recycling Rings’

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen described Tuesday how human smugglers are operating “child recycling rings” to thwart U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as The Daily Caller reported in March.

The CBP has said the border crisis is at a “breaking point,” and Nielsen talked about the escalating border crisis that is presenting new problems and demanding a variety of defensive measures during an appearance on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

The DHS secretary said human “smugglers are more active than ever before” at the U.S.-Mexico border and they have come up with a new tactic to promote illegal immigration.

Beto O’Rourke: As President I Would ‘Absolutely’ Sign Slavery Reparations Bill into Law

Wednesday MSNBC played a clip of 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate Beto O’Rourke at the Nation Action Network’s convention.

O’Rourke was asked if he would sign Sheila Jackson Lee’s bill which would consider reparations proposals for Africans-Americans.

O’Rourke said, “Yes. Civil rights are not just those victories that began with at the outset of my comments, but the injustices that have been visited and continue to be visited on people. We will never get the change that we need to live up to the promise of this country. So absolutely, I would sign that into law.”
