the archive uses jpeg ultimately.

It's a hangup of some people to not use jpeg.

It's clear to me that it is better for some uses because it is a much more compressed format. It uses a smaller foot print and thus uses far less internet resources to pass around on the networks.

It's better for servers.

cuts down on bandwidth drastically.

so if I use 'jpg' and not '.jpeg' on a jpeg, then it will be fine?

I thought it was between jpegs and png formats, not the file extension.

OK, it really easy to never use '.jpeg' and always use '.jpg'
