China is known to want to play the long game

however, the calculation that

1) China could prosper between now and 2024 (likely not, especially if tariffs get imposed)

2) the US wouldn't prosper or at least stay somewhat strong

and most importantly

3) if Trump is successful otherwise, that a new MAGA candidate wouldn't win in 2024 (like Kansas, Crenshaw, or some other hammer dropper) and continue to deconstruct them seems like an awfully big gamble
