Ashe was due in court Monday with his Chinese businessman co-defendant Ng Lap Seng, who is charged with smuggling $4.5 million into the US since 2013 and lying that it was to buy art and casino chips.
Ng was identified in a 1998 Senate report as the source of hundreds of thousands of dollars illegally funneled through an Arkansas restaurant owner, Charlie Trie, to the Democratic National Committee during the Clinton administration. (Ng was not charged with any crime.)
Ng and Trie had visited the White House several times for Democratic fund-raising events and were photographed with then-President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton.
One source told me, “During the trial, the prosecutors would have linked Ashe to the Clinton bagman Ng. It would have been very embarrassing. His death was conveniently timed.

Russian military not ruling out more troops to Venezuela amid increased tensions with US
BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:30 P.M.) – The Deputy Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Ivan Gil, stated on Thursday that his nation does not rule out the arrival of more Russian military personnel.
According to Gil, the Venezuelan government has not ruled out the deployment of more Russian military personnel as part of an agreement with Moscow.
“The group of military specialists is (in Venezuela) in the context of our agreements and contracts for military-technical cooperation,” Interfax quoted Gil as saying.
Gil also said Russian forces will stay in Venezuela as long as needed, and that there is no set period for their stay.
A number of Russian military personnel arrived in Venezuela last month after the U.S. armed forces deployed a number of troops at the Colombian-Venezuelan border in early March.

ROMA, Texas—It’s not uncommon to hear gun battles and grenades exploding across the Rio Grande in the Mexican city of Miguel Alemán.
The city is where two cartels—Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas—converge, frequently battling for territory.
Looking across the river from the bluffs at Roma, it’s easy to spot cartel lookouts, where scouts constantly watch Border Patrol and law enforcement for any gap.

Biden faces scrutiny for demanding ouster of Ukraine official probing firm that employed his son
Former Vice President Joe Biden is facing new scrutiny over his past comments and actions in Ukraine, including bragging that he pressured the country to fire its top prosecutor, who happened to be leading a corruption investigation of a natural gas company that employed his son Hunter Biden.
The focus on Biden's past comes on the heels of at least two women stepping forward with accusations of improper physical contact by the nation's former No. 2, potentially hurting his 2020 presidential election chances, though he still hasn’t formally announced his run for the White House.
If Biden ultimately decides to enter the race, he may also have to answer questions about Ukraine. Aside from the matter involving the top prosecutor were comments regarding Ukrainian women – Biden once told then-President Viktor Yushchenko during a state visit that they were “the most beautiful women in the world."
