If he closes it down in april of 2020, the effects on the market would show up at the end of the second quarter (reports would be out in July) so four months of that being reported with an additional economic report coming out in sept.
This would also allow for six months of reporting on the effects of stopping illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, either positive or negative.
So it would really depend on how effective closing the borders would be in stemming those problems, in addition to making car manufacturers shift production back to the US, which could be considered a win for POTUS.
I can see the strategy behind this, but it does tie into politics over actually stopping these problems. I don’t agree with it, but can understand the why.
Problem is going to be that there could be up to 2-3 million additional illegal immigrants in the country who the democrats will be pushing to vote illegally. Add to it, I would expect many of themselves to vote multiple times (because who cares about valid votes anyways right).
I’m really hoping that POTUSand team have a handle on the next presidential elections and the preventing of fraudulent votes. I still don’t believe the dems will have enough to overcome the margin of error without even more extreme cheating than has been done in the past.

I agree with your assessment and I believe that is why he is not doing it from the get go. There is too many variables in the marketplace to take an unprecedented step that would have a massively outsized and direct effect on the economy, if it is possible to close the borders or secure the borders through some other means.
And by that, i mean a border wall. I think the Trump admin is attacking this problem from multiple angles to try and stem the flow while minimizing the impact to the economy.
It’s kind of like people have completely forgot that multiple things can occur simulataneously.
