It has to do with energy displacement inside the Earth's core/mantle, which periodically "explode" for lack of a better term. This disrupts the Earth's magnetic-field, which really kinda holds this whole-shit together, causing a pole-shift of approx. 40 degrees. However, while this magnetic-disruption is occurring, the Earth's crust is sliding over the mantle, as the lava beneath the crust has become like a lubricant for it. Weather-patterns continue in the same manner, however, accompanied with the crust-shift, Earthlings would experience insane wind-speeds. Not that that would be as concerning as the lava flowing like rivers, and the earthquake beyond the scope of your imagination. Think: "Apocalypse". Because that's what it is.
