This might be somewhat premature, but I'm wondering if any of the codefags who run the archival sites have given any thought as to how they will capture updates to the placeholders.
If they go back and update the original posts, it won't appear to anyone as a new post. If they create new posts to reflect placeholder updates, will they do that if the same placeholder is updated several times?
My thinking (not that they are asking) is they should create a separate section in the archives for the placeholder posts to keep them updated as they are edited.
