ORAL POLIO VACCINE AND THE ORIGIN OF AIDS
I have stumbled onto something that seems pretty big. This is what I found so far. I already feel like I am writing a dissertation.
Investigating the origin of AIDS: some ethical dimensions Dr. Brian Martin
https://jme.bmj.com/content/29/4/253
4 main addressed points of the journal article
“Should the polio vaccine theory be pursued? Should anyone be blamed for the origin of AIDS? Should defamation actions be used when they inhibit discussion of scientific ideas? Does the scientific community have a responsibility to pursue unorthodox theories?”
He claims that scientists widely agree HIV originated from simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIVs) transferred from monkeys or chimpanzees in Africa. The “cut hunter” or “natural transfer” theory that undercooked meat or a bite is the “excepted” theory.
Louis Pascal hypothesized the SIVs transfer was through polio vaccines in central Africa Congo (1957-1960) with “the world’s first mass polio vaccination campaign, run by polio pioneer Hilary Koprowski.” The vaccine was cultured on monkey kidneys. The earliest known HIV positive blood sample (1959) from the vaccination site of Kinshasa.
( There is a link to Hilary Koprowski and Stanley Plotkin! Plotkin began his career studying in her lab https://embryo.asu.edu/pages/stanley-alan-plotkin-1932)
Pascal’s theory was rejected by several scientific journals but the Journal of Medical Ethics outlined without endorsing his 19,000 word submission.
“A few months after Pascal’s paper was published, it was overshadowed by an independent account of the same theory by journalist Tom Curtis in the mass circulation magazine Rolling Stone. Whereas Pascal’s submissions had been ignored by the scientific community, ironically, publication in Rolling Stone made scientists take the theory more seriously, with commentary and letters in leading scientific journals. In subsequent years there were further publications about the theory, including by AIDS activist Blaine Elswood, who had originally encouraged Curtis to investigate the story, and later by journalist Julian Cribb. My own role was to write commentaries on the dynamics of the scientific community as revealed by responses to the theory and later to provide a web site with relevant documents.”
(The author is a snake and sold him out in my opinion. You can feel the snark throughout the paper.)
Here is the shady scientific community stuff. Martin claims the point of view that the origin of Aids is not an appropriate topic for investigation and is not argued in print but private conversations and correspondence is common. Martin list 2 main reasons.
-
“that all available resources should be devoted to studying how to reduce the spread of AIDS and to develop treatments for it”
-
“current vaccination efforts could be jeopardised if people believed AIDS arose from polio vaccinations.”
There is so much more to the article but I thought this was interesting. In 1992, Koprowski sued Tom Curtis and Rolling Stone for defamation where they settled paying half a million dollars discouraging “Curtis and others from pursuing further investigation of, and publication about, the polio vaccine theory. Koprowski also sued Associated Press over a story by a different journalist.”
(Don’t dare challenge the vaccines!!!)
I have more digging. These two articles I do not have access to the full text. This is where I started.

This is an article by Pascal himself. You have to scroll down past snarky Martin to get to it. I have not read it yet.
