they say the ones they use now are not wild but are bred in the lab, so they don't carry diseases, as did/so the wild monkeys.

They are saying it jumped the species barrier in the 50's , but took time to gain "momentum" in the populaton; and there were certain conditions which caused it to spread.

Also that there were other monkey diseases which transferred to humans at the time they used the wild money kidneys. and that's why they stopped it way back when.
