Facebook struggling to deal with cybercrime on its platform, researchers say

 

esearchers at intelligence firm Cisco Talos tracked 74 cybercrime Facebook groups over the course of several months last year. Researchers Jon Munshaw and Jaeson Schultz in a post on Friday wrote that the groups frequently hosted "shady (at best) and illegal (at worst) activities," including selling stolen bank and credit card information, stealing account credentials from other websites, and promoting email spamming tools.

Poll: Most Americans hold negative views of social media

 

Fifty-five percent of respondents to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll said that they believe social media platforms do more to spread false information and outright lies than to spread news or correct info. Less than a third, 31 percent, said that social media was better for news than it was for misleading data.

Obama meets with Merkel as part of Germany tour

Ms Merkel was pictured touching Mr Obama warmly on the cheek as the pair met in Berlin.

 

They sat down for talks at Ms Merkel’s office and the former US president could be seen through the window laughing.

 

Ms Merkel and Mr Obama later emerged together before the German chancellor waved Mr Obama off.

 

The former US president and the German chancellor are known to have a good working relationship, with Mr Obama previously describing Ms Merkel as “one of my favourite partners throughout my presidency”.

 

His last phone call before leaving the White House in January 2017 was to the German leader.

 

Mr Obama thanked her for her “strong, courageous and steady leadership”.
