I reviewed the Apache exploit and it's a bit of an inside baseball thing.

you all might know that apache was designed incorrectly, really it was a hack.

it has a 'feature' that you could envoke a bash shell by doing stuff to the URL.

insider baseball.

and even though that feature existed for years, it seems as though it was never 'found out about' by 'bad guys' and it was fixedd, and it was never really used to do bad things.

this new 'bug' is kind of like that too.

if you have your own server, and you are teh one who writes the scripts, and you are also not on a shared host, the information is that you really have nothing to worry about.

So, ya, it's scary in one sense, but in another it's just the way that software always is: not really well thought out. Not really designed, but hacked. Not really the best, just what the 'crew' had access to when they got huge funding.

and now that 'software engineers' are called 'coders' they seem to have removed engineering from software design, if they ever really had it anyway.
