Your problem is in your thinking. You talk of being a "compliant citizen" and the things you look to the government to supply you with, free college, which BTW others pay for.

You are a free person, why do you feel you need to be compliant? You are free to earn and obtain these things for yourself, do not look for others to supply them for you. When you take them from the government they come with chains, then yes, you are no longer truly free.
