Byron York interviews POTUS attorney John Dowd.

First 30 minutes of Part One.

  • Bill Barr summary completely accurate because there was no collusion and no obstruction.

  • Russians tried to penetrate Trump organization and failed. No one took the bait.

  • DJT did not need help winning election.

  • Whole investigation was without basis which has been admitted by Comey.

  • Greatest fraud ever committed against the people of the US.

  • Dowd knows what the evidence was and there was nothing.

  • Hysteria was beyond anything he has ever seen.

  • DJT cooperated with Mueller investigation.

  • President as chief LEO had to respect the investigation.

  • Calling it a hoax was political in fact Mueller had total cooperation.

  • Produced even intimate notes of comments and thoughts of President during campaign.

  • Executive privilege allowed them to share it without it being at risk of going public.

  • This is what Barr now has to deal with.

  • Can't set a historical precedent that Presidents are exposed to this kind of thing.

  • Constitutional objections were put aside and documents and witnesses made available in exchange for speed.

  • Mueller didn't go fast. Dec 2017 investigation should have been finished.

  • Mueller betrayed DJT legal team.

  • Report if made public could expose witnesses to harm.

  • Three things are obstacles to Mueller report going public:

  • Grand Jury Material.

  • Classified Material.

  • Executive privilege.

  • Interviewing POTUS was what Mueller was hung up on.

  • Can not interview POTUS unless you have very good reason.

  • They had nothing.

  • Mueller threatened POTUS with subpoena, Dowd said, "go ahead". Would have been a constitutional crisis.

  • Dowd said he wanted to see what his basis for it would be.

  • He had nothing. Dropped it and backed off.

  • No way Mueller could win despite attorney fire power.

  • Have to follow the law.

  • So many people want to break the law to hurt POTUS.

  • To interview POTUS also had to establish no one else could provide information.

  • Every POTUS receives a fire hose of information. Hard to remember timing and content of conversation. POTUS team gave Mueller detailed notes of every meeting and all events involving Flynn. Better than asking POTUS to remember.

  • This is what didn't make sense. Makes Mueller appear political.

  • Investigation made DJT's life miserable.

Byron York Interviews POTUS attorney John Dowd.

Second 30 minutes of Part One.

  • POTUS was focused on foreign affairs.

  • Mueller investigation made it hard for him to negotiate.

  • Foreign states asked if DJT was going to be around.

  • POTUS over came it. Did an incredible job given circumstances.

  • Constant incoming fire.

  • POTUS remarkable resilience and energy.

  • Now he is FREE of this.

* Bill Barr has to rescue criminal justice system.

  • POTUS doesn't like the fact that the cabal at the top of the FBI did what they did.

* Bill Barr will get this thing done.

  • Weisman manufactured crimes on Manafort. Great injustices ever done. Solitary confinement for eight or nine months. Horror.

  • Cases Weisman brought had already been declined.

  • Manafort did not lie in cooperation. Case was a disgrace.

  • Dowd doesn't understand Flynn case.

  • Flynn told the truth.

  • Does not understand how he was charged and doesn't understand where that case is now.

  • Dowd really liked working with James Quarels on the Mueller team.

  • Quarels was the one that said Bloomberg report was a lie.

  • Gave Quarels full cooperation.

* How could he have obstructed when he completely cooperated with investigation.

  • No crimes. No obstruction.

  • Not sure why he felt he had to exonerate.

  • Report says no actions constituted obstruction.

  • Says could have been the fact that POTUS was so public about the investigation.

  • Dowd stressed to Mueller that it was POTUS first amendment right.

  • POTUS set the bar for cooperation.

  • Under the rules of the department Congress does not have the right to know what is in the report. Investigation is classified.

  • Dowd thinks there was a split on the Mueller team.

  • Mueller team was heavily biased. Dowd says that was bullshit.

  • Mueller team had members that wanted to railroad president.

  • Mueller team had to say in black or white whether there was or wasn't obstruction.

  • Someone decided to create mischief and raise hell.

  • POTUS did not fire Comey to obstruct Mueller.

  • Dowd says POTUS was never going to fire Mueller.

  • POTUS was ambushed by [RR] when investigation started.

  • No one got a heads up. No one knew they were thinking about it except James Comey.

  • Sessions was completely embarrassed and offered his resignation.

  • [RR] thought he was going to be fired.

  • Day before POTUS had interviewed Mueller for head of FBI but he had a business dealing with him and passed on Mueller.

Mueller / [RR] black hats

  • Investigation never stated what the crime was.

  • Never any notice to the WH or POTUS as to what they were doing.

  • POTUS knew there was nothing there.

  • Enormous amount of justified frustration.

  • Investigation was an outrage and no clue why it was taking so long.

  • Took too long.

  • Whole staff was Clintonites.

  • POTUS respected investigation. Made sure they had everything. Made sure people cooperated and made sure testimony was accurate.

  • No hold up in providing information.

  • Firing Mueller would have made no sense.

  • Never a "no" to Mueller or his colleagues.

Dowd wrote a letter to Mueller to investigate Comey and his false testimony before Senate Intel and Judiciary committees. Bizarre conduct.

  • Comey and Yates behaved completely inappropriately.

  • Comey was the main witness. Needed to be investigated by Mueller.

  • Comey pushing press and others.

  • Dowd took it to [RR] and [RR] behavior made no sense.

  • POTUS fired Comey based on [RR] recommendation.

  • Pardons were never discussed.

  • Manafort sentenced federally and then State of NY indicted him. Can't trust NY system after that.

  • Did it to hurt Manafort and his family.

  • State indictment won't stand up. Double jeopardy.

  • Roger Stone was never a factor.

  • Mueller and his staff never explained what the charge was.

  • Mueller said POTUS was not in danger. Nothing on collusion.

Byron York interviews POTUS attorney John Dowd.

First 30 Minutes Part Two.

  • How did POTUS collaborate when he called it a hoax?

  • On surface there was daily outrage. POTUS did this to set the media's agenda.

  • Below that there was the daily cooperation. One foot in front of the other.

  • Surface - witch hunt.

  • Underneath - cooperation.

  • Public side was political. DJT had to handle political side.

  • Mueller understood this.

  • Ton of merit to calling it a hoax. Has now been confirmed by Comey, Page and Strzok. They had nothing. No basis. POTUS was not worried about it.

  • Mueller investigation was a process that had to be respected despite the fact he could shut it down.

  • Obstruction is silliness.

  • All witnesses told the truth. All documents surrendered. Nothing destroyed.

  • POTUS has political responsibility.

  • Tweets were important politically.

  • Mueller team was whacked out of shape by how Trump spoke publicly.

  • Mueller was worried people would not cooperate.

  • POTUS went public in summer of '17 encouraging everyone to cooperate.

  • Mueller team did not like the scolding of Sessions.

  • POTUS the boss. Entitled to say what he wants.

  • MSM knee jerk theories were nonsense.

  • Actions showed that despite political statements people showed up to testify and cooperated.

  • Mueller was a big boy in regards to the political side.

  • People were pounding POTUS about this. Had to address it.

  • Waste of time and waste of money.

  • Dowd had trusting relationship with Mueller team. Only disappointment was how long it took.

  • July 20, 2017 Bloomberg reported Mueller expanding investigation into DJT business dealings.

  • Dowd knew this wasn't true. Nobody was investigating those transactions. Told Bloomberg reporter that it wasn't true. Bloomber was dug in believing it.

  • Dowd called Quarels. Quarels denied that they were expanding investigation.

  • Quarels told him not to believe everything that was in the paper.

  • He already knew it because he knew their word was good.

  • Dowd not involved in Trump Tower meeting issue but thought it was a ridiculous big nothing.

  • All blown out of proportion.

  • Phony hysteria over nothing.

  • Press drove it to insanity.

  • July 26 '17 feds raided Manafort home. Dowd publicly said Manafort raid was uncalled for. Manafort had been cooperating. Very old case. Dowd knew Weisman's reputation as over the top so he wasn't surprised. Unnecessary to do the raid. All they got were the files preparing Manafort to cooperate. Guys wife was in bed. Ridiculous. Outrageous. Shame on them. Abuse of power.

  • Apparently Mueller and Quarles were not in control. - personal thought.

  • All they had to do was ask Manafort's attorney for the information. Then they did it again to Roger Stone. Unnecessary.

  • Now they have 500 search warrants. What are we doing? RICO cases Dowd ran and he didn't use 1/10 the firepower they used.

  • Can't get over the solitary confinement of Manafort. Running a gulag now? Old case was previously declined.

  • Were trying to break Manafort but he knew nothing. There was nothing. People from Luchesi family were never treated how Manafort was treated.

  • Did an amphibous landing at Stone's house. Muscular. Over the top. Can't believe what they did.

  • Fear doesn't work. You get things by doing the right job.

  • Not a great legacy for the Mueller probe. Would be embarrassed if he was involved.

  • All Trump team lawyers had great relations with Mueller team.

  • Mueller's word was good. Quarels word was good. Handshake deals.

  • Witnesses were treated with great courtesy. Treated right. Schedules, places, timing, etc.

  • Meanwhile, CNN was staking out Stone's house.

  • Dowd blames Weisman.

  • Weisman must be cabal plant on Mueller team. Personal thought.

  • No mob boss ever indicted in fed court and then indicted in state court.

  • People lose trust in DOJ.
