Forces of the Libyan National Army (LNA) are moving into positions around Tripoli, according to a statement made by LNA spokesman Ahmed Mismari from an undisclosed location on Friday.

Mismari explained that these actions are part of 'Operation Flood of Dignity' and said that "the goal of 'Operation Flood of Dignity' is the liberation of Tripoli and of all Libya."

He addressed people living in the Tripoli area, stating that "our army is coming to you in order to save you from terrorists and criminals, so that you can live in safety and with dignity."

He added that five soldiers had died thus far in 'Flood of Dignity' which had already moved into the towns of Gharyan and Aziziya in the country's northwest before closing in on Tripoli's coastal airport.

On Friday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres met with LNA head Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi, after which he commented to the media that he was hoping "it will be possible to avoid a bloody confrontation in and around Tripoli."

"The United Nations remain available to facilitate any political solution able to unify the Libyan institutions. Whatever happens, the UN will remain committed, and I will remain committed, to support the Libyan people," Guterres added.

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido called on supporters to mobilise for nation-wide protests on April 6, known as 'Operation Freedom', during a speech delivered to the residents of the El Paraiso neighbourhood, in Caracas, on Friday.

Guaido criticised the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, saying that "they can't bring electricity because they stole the money, they can't bring water because they have no idea and have not invested anything to improve the quality of life of the Venezuelan."

The self-proclaimed interim president of Venezuela made the comments as the country faces repeated blackouts and water shortages.

"It is now clear that the protest is necessary. Does someone doubt that? It is very clear that we arrived here because we went to the streets and built a majority to rebel against the injustice. We will not get used to this," said Guaido.

'Operation Freedom' is scheduled to take place on Saturday, when thousands of opposition followers are expected to march through the Venezuelan capital to demand the reinstatement of electricity and water supplies.
