They're not a thing primarily because the energy density in batteries

is about 1% of gasoline. Perhaps if they had pushed battery

powered cars 100 years ago that would be different (and you

would be right), but they didn't, so here we are. Until materials

engineers come up with some revolutionary battery technology,

that won't change near term, either.
