FBI Announces the Line-of-Duty Death of Electronics Technician William “Homer” Lewis
It is with great sadness that the FBI announces the line-of-duty death of electronics technician William “Homer” Lewis of the Finance and Facilities Division. Lewis passed away on April 3, 2019, as a direct result of his work in response to the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
Lewis served in the FBI for more than 28 years. He joined the Bureau in 1990 as an operating engineer in the Training Division and became an electronics technician in 1992. Following the 9/11 attacks, Lewis worked with teams on the night shift for weeks, setting up and maintaining radio communications. He was instrumental in the recovery efforts, keeping FBI team members safe inside the Pentagon and at surrounding evidence-review locations.
His death is a great loss to the extended FBI family and community.

William "Homer" Lewis, 51, of King George County passed away April 3, 2019 at Mary Washington Hospital. William was a graduate of King George High School; he also earned two associate degrees in Applied Sciences from Germanna Community College. Beginning in 1990, William served his country at the Federal Bureau of Investigation with passion and conviction. His positive attitude was an inspiration to all of those around him. He will be greatly missed by the many friends he made throughout life. A man of strong faith, William was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis; his long-time love, Cheryl Dickinson; brother David Scott Lewis (Kimberly); sister Dinah Marie Taylor (Wade) and their children Kathryn Ann Taylor and William Wesley Kip Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, William James Lewis (Margaret Ann Wright) and grandparents William Francis Lewis (Myrtle Floretta Snyder). The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 8 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
