Arvada police arrested four men and a juvenile in connection with a chemical bomb that was thrown toward an officer and a bystander in west Arvada, police announced Monday.
Arvada Police Chief Link Strate said in a video released Monday that the caller stayed to help the officer remove the signs when the chemical bomb was thrown.
The officer became unconscious after the blast and was transported to a hospital, Strate said. He’s now at home recovering and has not been identified, but he has worked with the police department for four years, according to a department news release.
The caller was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said.
Police declined to say what the bomb was made of because they fear copycat attacks, the release said.
Maxwell McCann, 18; Braiden Ulmer, 19; Isaac Koch, 19; Gavin Dawson, 19; and an unnamed juvenile were arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault; second-degree criminal attempt/assault; two counts of possession, use or removal of explosives or incendiary devices; and conspiracy to commit possession, use or removal of explosives or incendiary devices.
