People's choice Boris Johnson 'could unite the Conservative party and win an election,' leading Brexiteer says.
Jacob Rees-Mogg, the leader of a hardline Brexit bloc and one of the driving forces behind a push to remove British Prime Minister Theresa May, has hinted that he would support fellow Conservative politician Boris Johnson as a future leader of the party.
Rees-Mogg, the leader of the European Research Group, a faction of Conservative members of Parliament who have been staunchly opposed to May's Brexit deal, praised Johnson as a potential Conservative party leader in an interview on Sky News program "Sophy Ridge on Sunday."
"I think very highly of Boris Johnson," Rees-Mogg said, arguing that the Brexit question aside, Johnson was a moderate figure among Conservatives who "could unite the party and win an election."
Johnson, the former mayor of London, has been a frequent thorn in May's side, repeatedly stating his opposition to her Brexit plan and resigning as foreign secretary last year over her strategy.
He has been linked with the top job many times and looked set to make a run in 2016, before Michael Gove, who was Johnson's campaign manager at the time, withdrew his support in dramatic fashion and declared his own candidacy. Johnson is popular with grassroots party members and has long held leadership ambitions.
May has told Conservative MPs that if they back her deal, she'll step down as Conservative Party leader, and it seems that members of her party are already jockeying for her spot.
In a statement on Saturday, May said that the only way of passing her rejected Brexit deal is with support from the opposition Labour Party, further roiling hardliners in her Conservative Party like Rees-Mogg.
Her statement is an admission that her previous strategy of attempting to win over the hardline elements of her own party has failed. It's a high-risk move that could cost her support for the deal from her own side, but, given her pledge to resign, she no longer needs the support.
Britain is staring down the barrel toward April 12, when it will leave the European Union without a deal if May is unable to secure a delay.
Boris is even more popular than before. Having recently been given an anointing by Trump on Boris' visit to the US, it seems that Boris is the man to make Britain great again.

“I’m an assassination risk”, writes Assange to Ecuador court in leaked testimony.
Ecuador will be violating its own constitution if it expels Julian Assange from its London embassy while fully aware of a possible “assassination” plot against him, WikiLeaks suggested, releasing the journalist’s court testimony, RT.com writes.
Article 79 of the Ecuadorean constitution guarantees that “in no case shall the extradition of an Ecuadorean be granted,” Assange told the Ecuadorean court back on October 29, when he requested the restoration of his communication privileges.
A transcript of Assange’s statement was released by WikiLeaks after news of his imminent expulsion from the embassy made the headlines on Thursday. While a great deal of Assange’s testimony defends his right to stay in the embassy after being granted asylum and, subsequently, citizenship, the 47-year-old also accused the government of Lenin Moreno of illegally limiting his communication rights and bowing to pressure from the US, which seeks his extradition for revealing some of Washington’s dirty secrets.
“The fact that a government controls a particular piece of space does not mean it can violate its Constitution, can violate UN-mandated rights, that it can engage in punishment without process,” Assange told the court, revealing that, besides threats of unjust prosecution, he also faces direct threats against his life.

The Antichrist Pope Francis Praises Multiculturalism: “Migrants Always Bring Riches”.
Maybe he is referring to the hundreds of millions of dollars the Catholic Church receives for its refugee resettlement programs. Pope Francis is the most pro-Islamic, subjugated Pope in modern history. Yet they still threaten to kill him, which is further proof that submission and accommodation to Islam is perceived as weakness and gives way to more demands, more conquest, more attacks in the cause of Islam.
“Pope Francis Praises Multiculturalism: ‘Migrants Always Bring Riches,’” by Thomas D. Williams, Breitbart, April 7, 2019 (thanks to Todd):
Pope Francis continued his immigration crusade this weekend, saying that migrants bring with them the wealth of a multicultural and multi-ethnic world.
“Let us thank God for a multi-ethnic and multicultural society,” the pope told students and faculty of the San Carlo school of Milan gathered in the Vatican Saturday, “because dialogue among cultures, persons, and ethnicities is richness.”
“We must not be afraid of the water of life, of this multiethnicity, of this multiculturalism,” Francis said, “and here I touch on a sore topic: don’t be afraid of migrants.”
“Migrants are those who always bring us riches. Europe itself was made by migrants! The barbarians, the Celts…,” he said. “All these came from the north and brought their cultures with them. Europe grew in this way, with the contrast of cultures.”
In his off-the-cuff address, the pope seemed to continue a discussion from last week in which he attacked U.S. President Donald Trump over his proposed border wall. Asked by a reporter what he thought of Trump’s wall, the pope warned that “builders of walls, whether they are of razor-wire or brick, will become prisoners of the walls they build. That’s history.”
We need bridges and “we feel pain when we see people who prefer to build walls,” he said….
“Today there is the temptation to make a culture of walls, to erect walls, walls in the heart, walls in the earth to prevent an encounter with other cultures, with other people,” the pope said. “And whoever erects a wall, whoever builds a wall will end up as a slave inside the walls he built, without horizons. Because he lacks this otherness.”…
“If I have a racist heart, I have to examine why and convert,” Francis said. “Migrants must be received, accompanied, integrated. Let them receive our values and let us receive theirs, an exchange of values.”
“This is the beauty of human generosity,” he concluded. “We grow richer by welcoming others. Richer in culture, richer in growth.”
“But building walls is useless,” he said.
What we need is “an open culture that allows us to look at the foreigner, the migrant, the member of another culture like a subject worth listening to, considering, and appreciating,” he said.
Thus sayeth the Antichrist.
