Hillary Clinton has warned that the Trump administration "was not recognising the danger" in discussing nuclear disarmament with Pyongyang, and said Washington lacked experienced diplomats to handle the talks.

"If you want to talk to Kim Jong Un about his nuclear weapons you need experienced diplomats," Clinton was quoted as telling Dutch tabloid Algemeen Dagblad in an interview published Saturday.

"These are people familiar with the dossiers and who know the North Koreans and their language," Trump's presidential rival said in an interview conducted in Amsterdam and published in Dutch.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is making national headlines in light of President Donald Trump's planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

As a former U.N. ambassador, Richardson has negotiated with North Korea in the past and has extensive knowledge of the hermit kingdom. He said he believes Trump is on the right track.

"Look, this is going to take a long time – this negotiation. It's a very risky gamble but I think it's worth taking," Richardson said during an interview with MSNBC.

No sitting U.S. president has ever met, or even spoken on the phone, with the leader of North Korea.

"And I worry that the president is not prepared, that he's doing a lot of things on the fly. I think he's got to get a strategy going before going ahead with these summit talks with the North Koreans. They're tough. I've negotiated with them," Richardson said in a phone interview with KOB.

While he supports Trump's decision to meet with Kim Jong Un about North Korea's nuclear program, Richardson said the president needs to be cautious.

"Stop tweeting,” Richardson said. “Don't insult the North Korean leader. Just let your professionals handle the pre-meeting of the summit."

Richardson said New Mexico has a vested interest in national security.

"We're a state that cares deeply about these national security issues because of our population, our location and because we have these important facilities," he said.

Former Obama administration official Valerie Jarrett had a surprising comment about President Trump’s upcoming meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un – she said everyone should be rooting for him.

Here’s what she said

“Kim Jong Un appears to be eager to sit down and to meet with Trump and of course if he meets with President Trump it would be the first time that a U.S. leader has met with a North Korean leader,” co-host Paula Faris asked, “but do you think that’s a sign that the sanctions that were put in place last month that we really doubled down on, that they’re actually working?”

“I think we have no idea,” Jarrett responded. “What’s going through either of their minds, quite frankly, and that’s what’s a little terrifying.”

But do I hope this works?” she said. “Sure I do.”

“We should all be rooting for him,” she added.

Her statement of support garnered a big applause from the crowd.

Earlier in the conversation, Jarrett appeared to criticize the approach with which the Trump administration was taking the negotiations with North Korea.

“Do you think the tough talk is gonna work?” co-host Joy Behar asked Jarrett.

“I think we should all welcome diplomacy over fire and fury, I think that’s right,” she answered, referring to Trump’s hardline stance against North Korea through his social media account.

“But negotiating with a nuclear state is not something you do on a drive-by. So for example, when the Obama administration did our deal with Iran, months of due diligence, we structured parameters, we said what we would do, what we wouldn’t do, and we put in place a process where we could figure out were they actually complying with the deal.”
