Idk about Q but I buy the part about something feeding on fear. We were tossing this around a few nights ago and I think that's another reason they torture/rape kids. Something they serve is feeding off that energy. There's a lot of cryptid/demon/alien encounters where instilling fear seemed to be the purpose of the encounter
