We're stuck with the terminology presented by Comey. He's the person who formally and officially disclosed to the public that the FBI was in fact conducting a counterintelligence investigation that involved the Trump campaign.

Whether that investigation was adequately predicated is at issue. The evidence has been hidden by the perps, using "investigative secrecy." There is a separate question whether the FISA warrant v. Page was adequately predicated. The answer to that can be twisted, and will be by the press. Some will argue that the issuance of a warrant by the FISC determines the answer. If a warrant issues, the predicate is adequate.

He can do both, protect a corrupt institution and go after some inside players for crimes. In fact, sacrificing a few of your own is a common technique to set up a false claim that the institution has been cleansed.

Mr. Barr knows how counter-intel investigations work. He knows there was ample evidence of Russian attempts to infiltrate the Trump campaign and that the FBI took lawful action to stop it. Giving a wink and a nod to this long-debunked โ€œspyingโ€ conspiracy theory is irresponsible.

Oh, so NOBODY is going to argue that if a FISA warrant issued, the predicate was adequate? I didn't say it was a good argument, I just said that this argument will be made. The argument is a way to avoid the issue, of course the argument is going to be made.
