Russian Forces Allegedly Withdrew From Key Town In Northern Aleppo, As Turkey Deploys Additional Troops Near It

The Russian Military Police withdrew from the strategic town of Tell Rifaat in the northern Aleppo countryside in the early hours of April 10, according to al-Arabiya TV.

Tell Rifaat is jointly controlled by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). The town is hoisting thousands of civilians who were displaced from their homes in the area of Afrin following the Turkish invasion last year.

Citing local sources, al-Arabiya said that the SAA reinforced its positions in Tell Rifaat and its surroundings following the withdrawal of Russian forces. The source told the UAE-based channel that the locals are fearing a near Turkish attack.

Trump Admin Calls on UN to Revoke Credentials of Maduro’s Regime

The Trump administration on April 10 called on the United Nations to revoke the U.N. credentials of illegitimate dictator Nicolás Maduro’s socialist regime and to instead recognize the internationally recognized interim president Juan Guaidó.

Vice President Mike Pence, as part of the administration’s latest effort to pressure the embattled dictator to step down, said that they had drafted a U.N. resolution and called on all states to support it.

“The time has come for the United Nations to recognize interim president Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela and seat his representative in this body,” Pence told the U.N. Security Council.

Previously, in February, both the United States and Russia failed in rival bids to get the Security Council to adopt resolutions on Venezuela.

The United States was the first country to recognize Guaidó as Venezuela’s rightful leader. Guaidó also has the support of more than 50 nations internationally.

When asked if the United States thought it had enough backing to oust Maduro’s government at the United Nations, Pence said: “I think the momentum is on the side of freedom.”

Russia and China have for years fed billions of dollars to Maduro’s regime through loans and energy deals.

Russian U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia accused the United States of provoking an artificial crisis to oust Maduro and replace him “with their own pawn,” actions he described as a “lawless, thuggish violation of international law.”

“We call on the United States to once again recognize that the Venezuelan people and other peoples have the right to determine their own future,” Nebenzia said. “If you want to make America great again, and we are all sincerely interested in seeing that, stop interfering in the affairs of other states.”

Like Russia, Maduro has also dismissed Guaidó as a “U.S. puppet.”

The United States had called the meeting to discuss the humanitarian situation. U.N. aid chief Mark Lowcock told the council that there is a “very real humanitarian problem” in Venezuela.

Pelosi: Barr is 'off the rails'

LEESBURG, Va. — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday said Attorney General William Barr has gone “off the rails” after he testified before a pair of House and Senate committees this week.

“Let me just say how very dismaying and disappointing that the chief law enforcement officer of our country is going off the rails yesterday and today,” Pelosi told reporters as she kicked off House Democrats' annual “issues” retreat at a golf resort 35 miles northwest of Washington.

Barr “is the attorney general of the United States of America, not the attorney general of Donald Trump.”

A day earlier, the attorney general testified before a House Appropriations subcommittee that he has opened an investigation into how the FBI initially decided to launch a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

On Wednesday, Barr went further, telling a Senate committee that he thought that the FBI was “spying” on the Trump campaign, comments that infuriated Democrats in the Capitol.

“I think spying did occur. Yes, I think spying did occur. But the question is whether it was predicated, adequately predicated,” Barr told Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) during the hearing.

Barr told House and Senate lawmakers that he expects the Justice Department to send them a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report into Russian interference within a week. Pelosi and other Democrats have called on Barr to release the full, unredacted report.

“We want to see the Mueller report. There was an assault on the integrity of our election in our country, the basis for our democracy. There is no doubt about that. …it took place by Russia,” said Pelosi, who by virtue of her position is one of the top eight intelligence officials on Capitol Hill.

“You would think that every resource in our country would say we want to make sure this never happens again instead of engaging in this silliness. But, no, it isn’t silly; it’s too serious to be silly – this obstruction of getting the truth to the American people."

Asked if she has confidence that Barr will fairly conduct his investigation into how the FBI carried out their Russia probe, Pelosi offered a terse, one-word answer: “No.”
