Australia and NZ are in the Southern Hemisphere. They are sparsly populated. Winds from northern and Southern Hemispheres don’t really mix. They have everything for a fresh start while the northern hemisphere is destroyed by a nuclear war.

Australia is part of the 5 eyes. They have line of sight to satellites in the southern hemispere. There is a clown facilty in pine gap, au that picks up the satellites down there. Austria knows.
