Texas Abortion Bill Could Put Women, Physicians On Death Row

A bill under consideration by Texas lawmakers would ban abortion across the state and charge any woman who has one - and the physician who performed it - with homicide, according to NBC News. The charge can carry the death penalty in the state.

Introduced by Republican Rep. Tony Tinderholt - an Air Force veteran who was placed under state protection over death threats - the "Abolition of Abortion in Texas Act" (H.B. 896) is necessary to make women "more personally responsible," according to Tinderholt.

The Texas lawmaker introduced a similar bill in 2017, however it failed to leave committee.

During Monday and Tuesday committee hearings on the bill, around 500 people testified in favor of it - of which 54 were against the bill, according to the Washington Post.

THEY’RE BACK! Clinton tour resumes tonight as tickets resell for 1/3 of face value

Bill and Hillary’s “An Evening With The Clintons” will reopen Thursday at the Beacon Theatre in New York, and there’s still plenty of seats available at the standard admission price of $99.

A front row seat is selling for $431.45, plus fees.

Thursday’s comeback show follows several months off the campaign trail for the duo, who were stealing the spotlight from Democrats during the 2018 midterms before taking a sabbatical from their road show in December.

Former President George H.W. Bush’s death in December served as the perfect excuse to take time off as the tour struggled to fill seats, despite some tickets going for a mere $7 on StubHub, Fox News reports.

According to the tour’s website, Thursday promises to be a magical evening Clinton fans will never forget.

“Experience a one-of-a-kind conversation with two individuals who have helped shape our world and had a front seat to some of the most important moments in modern history,” reads the description for the live event. “From the American presidency to the halls of the Senate and State Department to one of the United States’ most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections, they provide a unique perspective on the past, and remarkable insight into where we go from here.”

The Clinton’s “unique perspective on the past” is something she’s worked to capitalize on in the wake of her humiliating defeat to Donald Trump in 2016, first with a book titled “What Happened” to offer excuses for her loss.

The tour will extend that conversation indefinitely at a time when Democrats vying for the presidential nomination in 2020 are attempting to court voters Hillary Clinton alienated in 2016.

The Clintons will follow up the April 11 talk in New York with stops in Detroit on Friday and Philadelphia on Saturday.

US Lawmakers Say Assange Should Be Held Responsible for Election Meddling

Several US lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle in separate statements on Thursday said WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange must be held accountable for allegedly working with Russia to interfere in American elections.

"Now that Julian Assange has been arrested, I hope he will soon be held to account for his meddling in our elections on behalf of… the Russian government", US Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer said via Twitter. US Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr, a Republican, expressed in a press release on Thursday that Assange must face justice for working as part of the Russian intelligence services and conspiring to steal classified information.

Senator Bob Menendez, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that he hopes the US justice system holds Assange "to account for his crimes". Senate Vice Chairman on the Intelligence Committee Mark Warner said in a separate press release that the British courts must quickly extradite Assange to the United States so he can "finally get the justice he deserves", Warner also claimed Assange worked with Russia to help undermine the West and US security.

Republican Senator Lyndsey Graham, Congressman Eliot Engel and several other lawmakers made similar comments throughout the day. Assange was arrested in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London earlier. The UK police confirmed that the arrest had been made "on behalf of the United States authorities". Ecuador had withdrawn asylum it had earlier granted Assange. US authorities indicted Assange in connection with a federal charge of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, the Justice Department said in a statement on Thursday.

The computer intrusion charge carries a maximum prison sentence of five years. However, experts and former intelligence officials have said the United States could bring additional charges against Assange.
