Brit anon here. I think this is mai stream media doing the usual 'smear' type stuff because they have no idea what is going on and what is going to come out of this. Brits think this is a work around by MI6 and our Gov and your guys plus Trump to get whatever Assange has buried for his D day and he has said for a long time that he has a 'safe guard' drop of info. He was winking and thumbs up today in Uk to supporters so we think he's all in the know with what is happening and that the 'disclosed' lie of him trying to run to his 'safe room' is MSM rubbish again. Most of us here think this is Brexit/US related deal making. Assange is part of the play. He's been in there for years and only now he comes out, we are pretty sure that's because his info has become an ace in the hole for current UK and US people running the show rather than the bust it might have been had he been hauled out in the last seven years.
The point is that certain 'factions' did not want him out enough over the last seven years. Because of what he had to drop. He could have been yanked out years ago but was not because what he has was not something those people wanted out. Now it seems the guard has changed and his stuff coming out is what certain factions want to happen. It is going to be very interesting to see how all this five eyes spying and Clinton e mail stuff works out through Brexit and EU and our relationship with US. Big changes happening and Trumps e mail today re Brexit on the day Assange came out made us all raise an eyebrow.

If the UK goes out of the EU and trades with Trump, imagine the amount of intel that will get dropped. Our Brexit could be Trumps renaissance given the five eyes and spying debacle.
