During President Trump’s visit to Calexico, California, a week ago, he reportedly told Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan that he would pardon him for breaking immigration law.
Trump was visiting Calexico to tell border agents to block asylum seekers from entering the U.S., contrary to immigration law. The President then also told the commissioner of CBP, Kevin McAleenan, that if he were sent to jail as a result of blocking those migrants from entering the U.S., Trump would grant him a pardon.
An official speaking on the matter declined to say whether the comment was to be taken as a joke or not.
