Angela Merkel is Polish, not German. Her parents are Polish immigrants who changed their name Kacmiercak to Kasner when they immigrated. And the grandmother of Angela Merkel (from the father´s side) Anna Kacmiercak was a Jewish Polish woman who worked as a teacher.

Her grandfather was even fighting in WW1 against the German Reich.
