Qatar covered up the death of 1200 workers

Rights groups accuse body of whitewashing Qatar’s image and politicising rights issues

Cairo: Several human rights groups have accused a Qatari self-styled rights advocate and his government panel of covering up the death of more than 1,200 migrant workers while building sports facilities for hosting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK and Europe, the African Human Right Heritage, and the Gulf Association for Rights and Freedom have said they filed a joint complaint against Ali Bin Samikh Al Marri, the secretary general of Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee.

They also accused Al Marri of taking advantage of his panel to whitewash Qatar’s image and wasting the small emirate’s money for “politicising” rights issues.

Congress raises doubts over 'suspicious black trunk' in Modi's helicopter

After landing, a black trunk was taken out and whisked away in a private car

New Delhi: The Congress Sunday demanded a thorough probe into the alleged transportation of a "suspicious black trunk" in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter during his visit to Chitradurg in Karnataka.

Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma asked the prime minister to come clean on the issue and said the EC should inquire into the contents of the trunk.

He said the Congress' Karnataka unit has already filed a complaint with the EC in this regard.

A mysterious box was unloaded from PM Modi’s helicopter at Chitradurga yesterday and loaded into a private Innova which quickly sped away. The #ElectionCommission should enquire into what was in the box and to whom the vehicle belonged. @ceo_karnataka pic.twitter.com/iudqT143Bv

"We saw there were three more choppers escorting the prime minister's helicopter. After landing, a black trunk was taken out and whisked away in a private car which was not part of the SPG cascade," he alleged.

They have had a internet kill switch for years .. this is not new

The Internet Kill Switch

"To retain respect for sausages and laws, one must not watch them in the making."

– Usually attributed to Otto von Bismarck

A bill, currently in draft, which is sponsored by Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), is a great example of how watching political sausage making will cause you to lose all respect for those cranking the handle.

The nascent bill proposes that the president be given what will be, in effect, the power to shut down the Internet. No, I am not kidding. At first I thought this was some kind of elaborate April Fool's joke (a staff working draft of the bill is dated April 1), but then I read John Fontana's article here in Network World and realized these people are serious!

This bill is, admittedly, a working draft, so to some greater or lesser extent it is "flying a kite". The bill has a lot more hurdles and scrutiny to face before it gets near to becoming law. That said, the fact that anyone would put forward such a bill is just marginally this side of insane.

Russia is going to test an internet ‘kill switch,’ and its citizens will suffer

It’s cool – all the creepy totalitarian countries are doing it.

Russia is planning to disconnect itself from the global internet in a test sometime between now and April. The country says it is implementing an internal internet (intranet) and an internet "kill switch" to protect itself against cyberwar. The question is, would this actually work?

"This, as a single tactic, would not be sufficient," explained Bill Woodcock, executive director of Packet Clearing House, via email. "But it hugely reduces their attack surface. So in combination with many other tactics, it's a component of a reasonable strategy."

An internet "kill switch" has been in Russia's legislative plans for some time – though it's not entirely about defense. Russia sees this drastic move as a means to solve the dual issues of defending itself from cyberwar attacks and more tightly controlling its citizens' access to information.

Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP)

Definition - What does Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) mean?

A potentially unwanted program (PUP) is a piece of software that is also downloaded when a user downloads a specific program or application. PUP is similar to malware in that it will cause problems when it is downloaded and installed.

This term was coined by Internet security company McAfee to avoid labeling downloadable programs as malware. What makes a PUP different from malware is that the user gives consent to download it. When the user downloads a program from the Internet and neglects to read the download agreement, he or she may fail to understand what other unwanted programs are being downloaded.

Albanian police use tear gas after protesters try to storm parliament

Police and protesters clashed on the steps of the parliament in Tirana after an attempt to break into the building. Demonstrators are calling for Prime Minister Edi Rama's ouster and have no plans to stop.

Thousands of protesters rallied in downtown Tirana on Saturday, calling on the ruling Socialist government to resign and hold early elections.

The protests, which saw participants and police clash in front of the parliament, were the latest demonstrations organized by the political opposition during the past two months.

Protesters showed up in the late afternoon on Tirana's main boulevard carrying posters, chanting "Parliament of crime!" and throwing flares, firecrackers and smoke bombs at police. They also torched a parked car.

Police responded with tear gas and water cannons after some protesters tried to storm the parliament building. Many demonstrators stayed on the steps of the building shouting slogans against the ruling prime minister.

Spying On Trump & A Progressive Game of Semantics

It is shocking indeed that the left would try to defend the FBI, CIA and DOJ on the factually ludicrous claim that none of the agencies were involved in “spying” on Trump, whether before or after the November 2016 election. The public record is replete with the facts that show they targeted Trump, his campaign and then his administration.

Workers Find Dozens of Alleged Secret Graves at Juvenile Institution Where Boys Were Tortured, Raped

Workers preparing to cleanup a fuel storage site near the infamous Dozier reform school—Florida’s first juvenile justice institution—discovered something far worse then pollution. Evidence of more than two dozen “clandestine” child graves was discovered as workers tested the ground.

Shockingly enough, this is the second time secret graves for tortured and raped children have been found nearby the school.

A report out of the Miami Herald detailed the horrific discovery this week:

A company hired to evaluate underground storage tanks adjacent to the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna performed a series of ground-penetrating radar tests on a parcel a little less than 500 feet from what is called the Boot Hill Cemetery at Dozier, an infamous youth prison linked to more than a century of chilling abuse.

A report on the study said there are 27 “anomalies” on the parcel consistent with human burials. If the 27 anomalies are, in fact, human remains, the total number of known burials on the campus would rise to at least 82 — though University of South Florida researchers who have studied the campus extensively believe there may have been 100 or more deaths at Dozier since its opening in 1900.

“Unmarked graves, by conscious design, are made to be hiding places,” said Jack Levine, a Florida children’s advocate who had raised concerns about Dozier when he was a young social worker for the state, according to the Herald. “What stays hidden almost forgives the crime.”

For years, state officials have contended that only 31 boys were buried at the site. However, independent forensic scientists using high-tech equipment have found far more than that.

In 2012, the University of Florida in Tampa announced that they found evidence of at least 50 graves on the government institution’s property.

Prior to the 2012 study, in 2009, an investigation report by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), found that there were 81 school-related deaths of students from 1911 to 1973.

However, shortly after that investigation, it was revealed that as many as 98 children had been tortured or killed at the school between 1914 and 1973.

Dozier even kept records of the children who were buried on the grounds and as many as 50 of them were recorded to have died while in this institution.

While in Sweden: Rape Capital of the West they kill disabled kids .. kinda of like our FBI can't find a terrorist training camp in the state of New Mexico but can find someone that writes graffiti on the walls

Eric Torell: Three police officers charged over fatal shooting of toy gun-carrying disabled man

Three police officers have been charged in Sweden after a disabled man was shot dead as he was carrying a toy pistol.

Eric Torell, who had the mental age of a three-year-old, died in a hail of bullets after sneaking out of his home in Stockholm in the middle of the night to play.

The 20-year-old, who had Down syndrome and autism, was shot in August last year and his case has raised concerns over the use of deadly force.

Police fired 25 shots at Torell in a residential courtyard, believing a toy pistol he was carrying was a real weapon.

Torell was hit three times. Two of the shots, including the one that killed him, hit him in the back.

Sudan’s new ruler under pressure for swift handover to civilian rule

16 people had been killed in live fire in Khartoum alone over the previous two days

KHARTOUM: Sudan’s second new military leader in as many days accepted the resignation of the feared intelligence chief on Saturday as he faced calls at home and abroad for a swift handover to civilian rule.

Career soldier General Abdul Fattah Al Burhan took the helm of Sudan’s transitional military council on Friday when his short-lived predecessor General Awad Ibn Ouf — a close aide of ousted president Omar Al Bashir — quit in the face of persistent protests.

Al Burhan now has the tough task of persuading the tens of thousands of protesters who remain on the streets that he is not just another general from the Bashir regime but is genuinely committed to civilian-led reform.
