Fundraisers say Harris is favorite candidate in Hollywood
The California lawmaker's fans in the entertainment industry mecca reportedly include director J.J. Abrams, television producer Shonda Rhimes, actress Elizabeth Banks and music giant Quincy Jones.
“I think she’s really trying to corral this community as her donor base,” Hannah Linkenhoker, the senior political strategist at ICM Partners and co-founder of the L.A. Women’s Collective donor group, told the Times.
“To some extent, that’s working. She’s definitely had the most events, and the most high-profile.”
Harris, who lives in Los Angeles, has counted on the support of many of Hollywood's biggest names since her first campaign in 2003.
Over the last decade, she has collected more than $1.7 million from the entertainment industry, a Times analysis found.
Jane Fonda, Leonardo DiCaprio, Barbra Streisand, Halle Barre, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Affleck, Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron and a long roster of studio executives reportedly gave money to Harris years before she declared her 2020 candidacy.
Donna Bojarsky, a longtime Democratic political consultant in Los Angeles, told the Times that the entertainment industry is more committed than usual to defeating President Trump in 2020.
“You almost have to look back on Ronald Reagan quaintly,” she said. “It’s a whole different level, and the danger is at a whole different level. We’re arguing about the existence of climate change? This is just insane.”
Other 2020 candidates have held events in Hollywood, but have not received the same level of support as Harris, according to the Times.
Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) have reportedly been noticeably absent from seeking donations from Hollywood.

Maduro calls for a million more militia thugs
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is getting desperate. With the international community lining up against him, and his own people getting more hungry all the time, Maduro finds himself increasingly alone and isolated.
His solution? Find a million more friendly faces that he can count on when it really hits the fan.
Maduro is calling for a million more members of his personal bodyguard, a civilian militia tasked with keeping the population in line by any means necessary. Those means include roving gangs of street thugs who shoot anyone who looks like they oppose the government.
Since there are already nearly 2 million members of these militias, Maduro's call for a million more could mean that he is beginning to distrust his base in the Venezuelan military. Indeed, Maduro said yesterday that his civilian militia would become part of the military command.
Certainly the top brass in the military aren't budging. But they'd have a hard time protecting Maduro if they didn't have many soldiers to command.
Maduro is asking his militiamen to go out to the fields and get some food for the rest of Venezuela.
The Chavista thugs that join the militia are interested in protecting the goodies that Maduro has been handing out since he came to power. These are the poorest of the poor who, without Maduro's benificence, would starve to death. They are his natural allies and political base - what's left of it.
Venezuela's agony will continue and may be entering a new, bloodier phase. Guaido is calling for people to take to the streets to "start the final phase of the end of the usurpation". That means confrontation with the militias and probably a lot more bodies in the streets.
