One of the creepiest places I've ever been was Quemado Lake, New Mexico
It's an isolated place except for a handful of vacation homes and a couple of campgrounds
In 2013, a couple of years after I last fished there, 2 teens went missing who were at the lake helping a group of kids who had come over from the Blind and Deaf Ranch.
The 2 teen boys went missing for days and were eventually found in the lake buried under a couple feet of mud. Their bodies were immediately rushed to the State Coroner in Santa Fe but it seemed like something was being covered up. After all, how do two boys missing just a couple of days end up buried in 2 feet of mud at the bottom of the lake? And in what condition were their remains found in?
At that time there was a creepy tackle shop and steakhouse next to the lake called Snuffy's. It was in a weird building that had originally been a cowboy bunkhouse back in the day and seemed like a labyrinth of rooms, passages, and even a basement. It has since closed, but I always wondered what they really did there at Snuffy's. Snuff films? Creepy area…….
