About 400 Captured Daesh May Flee to Europe Amid Chaos in Libya - Reports
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - As many as 400 Daesh* militants, which are currently in custody in Tripoli and Misrata, may escape and flee to Europe amid chaos in Libya, the Italian ANSA news agency reported on Tuesday, citing Ahmed Maiteeq, the deputy prime minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).
The GNA is working with the international community to keep these terrorists in prisons, Maiteeq noted.
The head of the Libyan National Accord (GNA), Fayez Sarraj, said on Monday that 800,000 migrants from Libya could come to Europe amid the crisis in the country.
The situation escalated on 4 April, when the LNA led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and backed by the eastern government announced an offensive against Tripoli in a bid to oust what Haftar called terrorist forces from the capital city.
In response, armed forces loyal to the GNA started a military operation against the LNA.

Italy – 1 in 5 arrests are foreigners despite making up only 8.7 percent of the population
Newly released statistical data from Italy’s national police force show that approximately one fifth – twenty percent – of all the arrests made in the country during 2018 were of foreigners.
According to the Italian newspaper Il Giornale, the crime report asserted that of the 5,173 individuals who were arrested by Italy’s police force in 2018, 990 of them were foreign-born nationals.
In the report, the police included that of the foreign-born nationals who were arrested, Nigerian and Albanian nationals were the largest groups represented in the statistics, followed only by Moroccans, Romanians, and Tunisians.
The amount of arrests – about one in five – contrasts drastically with the percentage of the entire foreign-born population living in the country which sits at a mere 8.7 percent or below one in ten, as per Italy’s official demographic statistics.
In recent years, Italy has developed significant issues with Nigerian mafia gangs. A large scale bust in February showed that one of the mafia groups was employing occult voodoo rituals and threats of violence to maintain trafficked sex workers conforming to their tyrannical orders.
The busted mafia gang was later shown to be a small piece of a much larger crime network out of Nigeria and Libya which would organize the illegal trafficking of women into Italy so that they could later be made to work on the street as sex slaves.

Meluzzi, who was involved first hand with the case, had this to say about those involved with Nigerian organized crime: “What we have seen in the case of Pamela are the same methods the Nigerian mafia systematically employs in Nigeria and elsewhere. It is a routine to cut victims into pieces and, in some cases, to eat parts of their bodies.”

Catholic Churches Are Being Desecrated Across France—and Officials Don’t Know Why
France has seen a spate of attacks against Catholic churches since the start of the year, vandalism that has included arson and desecration.
Vandals have smashed statues, knocked down tabernacles, scattered or destroyed the Eucharist and torn down crosses, sparking fears of a rise in anti-Catholic sentiment in the country.
Last Sunday, the historic Church of St. Sulpice in Paris was set on fire just after midday mass on Sunday, Le Parisien reported, although no one was injured. Police are still investigating the attack, which firefighters have confidently attributed to arson.

And while the text box may seem like a complete non-sequitur, it was actually a disclaimer meant to discourage the spread of what YouTube’s algorithms mistakenly flagged as a “conspiracy theory” or “fake news.”
As it turned out, the columns of smoke rising from the Gothic cathedral bore a startling resemblance to those of 9/11–and YouTube’s anti-conspiracy software was quick to kick into gear.

Marine dies after training accident at Camp Pendleton
A special operations Marine was killed during training at Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps said Monday.
The member of the Marine Raider unit of the Special Operations Command was injured during a tactical vehicle training exercise Saturday. He was evacuated by a military aircraft, but died Sunday, a Marine spokesman said. Two others were also injured during the training.

Headquartered at Camp Pendleton, the 1st Marine Raider Battalion is organized, trained and equipped to deploy for worldwide missions as directed by the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command.
The name of the Marine who died will be released after the next of kin has been notified. The Marine Corps is investigating the incident.

No bump stocks turned in locally in Ohio yet after federal ban
A federal ban on bump stocks went into effect in late March, roughly 18 months after a gunman perched in a hotel room overlooking a country music festival fired more than a thousand bullets into a crowd, killing 58 concertgoers and injuring 700 others in the span of 10 minutes.
On that October night in Las Vegas in 2017, bump stocks were introduced to the nation. Using the $200 attachment, it allowed his semi-automatic weapons to function similar to fully automatic guns by using the weapon’s recoil to fire bullets at a higher rate at the expense of accuracy.
Of the 24 firearms found in the gunman’s room, 14 were assault-style weapons equipped with the rapid-fire attachment.
What happened next was something that has rarely happened in Washington in recent years: Lawmakers — Democrats and Republicans — found consensus and worked together in 11 states to outlaw bump stocks and other modifiers that make semi-automatic weapons fire faster.
The nationwide ban officially went into effect March 26. Since then, local law enforcement agencies are not seeing gun owners surrender their bump stock weapon attachments, even though it’s now a felony to own one. Officials from the Toledo Police Department and the Lucas and Wood county sheriff’s offices told The Blade they’re not aware of any bump stocks turned in to their offices.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The head of Algeria's Constitutional Council, Tayeb Belaiz, stepped down on Tuesday, having spent less than two months in office, amid ongoing anti-government protests calling for the resignation of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's establishment, the body announced.
"The president of the Constitutional Council, Tayeb Belaiz, informed the Council's members in a meeting Tuesday, 16 April 2019, that he had presented his resignation as head of the Constitutional Council, a post he had been holding since he took oath on February 21," the council's statement said as quoted by the state-run Algeria Press Service news agency.
The Constitutional Council oversees parliamentary and presidential elections in the country, approves candidates for the elections and endorses the resignation of the country's leader in case of such an event, among other things.

Syrian Army kicks off new operation to eliminate ISIS from Iraqi border
BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a new military operation, today, in the eastern part of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
According to a source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army began the operation near the key border city of Albukamal, which was liberated from the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in late 2017.
The source said the Syrian Army is attempting to clear the Islamic State’s hideouts near the Iraqi border; this comes just 48 hours after the terrorist group carried out another ambush along the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor.
The operation is reportedly being carried out in several other areas in eastern Syria, including the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate.
