Jesus does say we'll do greater things than him, but he isn't to be transcended. What do you mean by "complete the journey?" Does eternal identification with Jesus lead to eternal life, ie, a positive vector? Good fruit?
I think we die daily, and progress self-consciously in one direction or another. It's a kind of reincarnation, if you please. The power to "rise from the dead" is baked into the mythic mind of Christians, which are sated by the risen Christ himself, the firstborn over all creation, Jesus.
If Christ wasn't God, I find his claims to BE God odious.
