highly doubt. Have been there 5 or 6 times in the last two years while visiting Paris, & several things make me doubt this theory. One, while the church is a popular tourist sight, the building still primarily functions as a church. To enter the church, men must be wearing pants + sleeved shirt, women must be completely covered from below the knees up. Church also doesn't charge visitors to enter the building, only asks that you aren't loud or obnoxious. Sells zero merchandise or souvenirs. Just a few points that indicate it isn't being exploited for profit. Numerous other major churches in Europe are, especially the Vatican.

also, the idea that they would start a fire + burn down the roof + collapse the ceiling b/c of difficulties posed by the remodel seems totally counterproductive. Even if they decided the 13th century wood was to difficult to renovate, what would collapsing the roof do to solve that issue? The renovation was being done on the back end of the church, but the fire took place in the attic at the center of the church.

okay let's say that's true. Isn't that sort of good/positive thing? No damage to the relics + no damage to the old church + fire hazard removed. And they'll be able to fundraise hundreds of millions for a project that previously had only six million to renovate. Being used to rebuild the crown jewel of gothic architecture. That's fine with me. Just seems odd that a globalist like Macron would be willing to go along with a plan to improve a Christian icon.
