‘’’Doctors In South Africa Performed First-Ever Middle Ear Transplant, Curing Patient From Deafness’’’

By using 3D-printed technology to reconstruct the broken bones of a middle ear, a group of doctors were able to successfully complete a transplant. This surgery is being celebrated as a long-term solution to conductive hearing loss. Furthermore, the surgery can be performed on people of any age, including newborn babies, which means it is able to cure patients of a form of deafness that is caused by physical damage or infection in the middle ear as well as congenital birth defects and metabolic diseases.

A 35 year old male was the first patient to undergo this procedure after he lost his hearing in a car accident which devastated his middle ear. Due to the nature of his trauma and what was involved, the operation lasted about an hour and a half. So who completed this procedure?

To think that there is finally a cure for deafness is remarkable. It gives hope to so many people that maybe they'll be able to hear again one day. Hopefully the professor can work with the government to ensure it’s available to everyone who needs it.
