One Killed, 2 Injured After Dozens Break Out of Jail in Venezuela

A person was killed and two other people were injured after about 60 prisoners escaped from jail in Venezuela's Nueva Esparta state, media reported citing local authorities.

The inmates, who seized arms from a guardhouse, attacked and injured two prison guards, the Noticias Venezuela news website reported.

According to preliminary data, one of the prisoners was killed.

Police are now searching the area.

Last year, a fire at the Venezuelan prison in the northern state of Carabobo killed 68 people overnight, including two female visitors.

Global Attention Spans Are Shrinking Amid Deluge Of Information

Thanks to information-overload in a hyperconnected world, people's attention spans are decreasing, according to a recent study from the Technical University of Denmark.

Between social media, a "hectic news cycle" and everything else people have going on, people are spending less time on various topics, based on several metrics studied - including 40 years of movie ticket sales, google searches, Reddit comments and other domains.

"We wanted to understand which mechanisms could drive this behavior. Picturing topics as species that feed on human attention, we designed a mathematical model with three basic ingredients: 'hotness', aging and the thirst for something new," says Dr. Philipp Hövel, lecturer for applied mathematics, University College Cork.

This model offers an interpretation of their observations. When more content is produced in less time, it exhausts the collective attention earlier. The shortened peak of public interest for one topic is directly followed by the next topic, because of the fierce competition for novelty. -EurekAlert

"The one parameter in the model that was key in replicating the empirical findings was the input rate - the abundance of information. The world has become increasingly well connected in the past decades. This means that content is increasing in volume, which exhausts our attention and our urge for 'newness' causes us to collectively switch between topics more rapidly."

One metric studied was how long popular 'hashtags' - used to promote topics, remain on Twitter's "top 50" global daily rankings.

In 2013, a hashtag would remain on the top 50 list for an average of 17.5 hours. In 2016, this decreased to 11.9 hours. Of course, we had the chaotic 2016 US election season in which a cocky billionaire predicted to lose wiped the floor with the GOP's 'top candidates' (please clap), before defeating Establishment shoe-in Hillary Clinton in a dramatic upset finish.

Snoop Dogg and other rappers are outraged at Laura Ingraham and want her fired — here's why

They're upset that she laughed at the funeral of Nipsey Hussle

Popular rapper Snoop Dogg and other black entertainers expressed outrage over comments Fox News host Laura Ingraham made about the funeral of Nipsey Hussle, a beloved rapper and community leader in Los Angeles, California.

Ingraham pointed out that Hussle recorded an expletive-ridden protest song against President Donald Trump, and went on to ridicule at the lyrics of the song.

Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Joseph Asghedom, was shot and killed outside of his store in South Los Angeles in March. His massive funeral was attended by many celebrities and leaders of the African-American community in celebration of his artistic contributions and political activism.

Rapper "The Game" called Ingraham a "disrespectful c***" and called on his 10.3 million followers on Instagram to demand she be fired by putting pressure on her advertisers.

"I'm asking all of my followers, fans, friends & family to spread this video with demands of #LauraIngrahams termination immediately !!!!!" he commented.

Snoop Dogg added simply, "I'm in."

Video of Ingraham's comments were also circulated on Twitter.

Rapper T.I. posted a video of Ingraham's comments and excoriated her reaction on his Instagram account.

"This is Disgusting! You both are vile despicable, poor excuses for people," he commented. "Neither of you WILL EVER know or experience the level of love, appreciation and respect that Nip has… EVEN IN DEATH!!! So let that sizzle in ya lil hateful,demonic spirits."

Actress Nia Long commented on his post, saying, "Both need to be fired. PERIOD!!"

A petition with more than 40,000 signatures is being circulated for the purpose of terminating Ingraham from Fox News over the comments she made.

Four people were shot during the funeral procession for Hussle through Watts, and one later died.
