A close confidant of the French billionaire who pledged €100 million towards the restoration of Notre Dame has called for such donations to be 90 per cent tax deductible.

Former French culture minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon made the suggestion before the flames in the cathedral had been extinguished.

His suggestion came as his close friend François-Henri Pinault, who owns the firm behind Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent and is married to Salma Hayek, pledged the nine-figure sum to help 'completely rebuild' the Gothic monument.

Mr Aillagon has long been a close advisor of Mr Pinault's and now manages the Pinault Collection, the Pinault family's vast art collection.

Were the government to enact the policy, French taxpayers rather than the wealthy donors would foot most of the bill for repairs.

Ninety per cent of the sum donated would be taken off the wealthy individual's tax bill, leaving the Exchequer significantly out of pocket and needing to make up the shortfall from general taxation or by cutting spending.

What to expect from alt-left media at 9:31 AM Thursday

So what can we expect at 9:30 AM Thursday when Attorney General Bill Barr ans Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein take to the podium to release the redacted Mueller report?

I assume the Democrats have already put their talking points out with the alt-left media on how many instances Special Counsel Robert Mueller questioned behavior of the Trump administration in matters covering Russian collusion and/or obstruction of justice.

Remembering of course that Mueller recommended no charges be brought by the Attorney General. Also that Barr AND Rosenstein agreed with the Mueller findings.

Rosenstein was the Justice Department official who offered to were a wire when meeting with the President in 2017 to gather evidence to remove Trump under the 25th Amendment. So he is no fan or lackey.

By 9:31 AM you will have alt-left commentators screaming about the X number of times Mueller suggests this act was questionable or that statement was not totally upfront and honest.

The only defense any administration personnel needs for this charge is to say, “The US government was spying on its citizens, so to say that testimony is not honest is because the Obama administration has tapes of what I said all those many months ago,”

HUD moves to cancel illegal immigrants' public housing access

The Trump administration is proposing a new rule to try to block some 32,000 illegal immigrant-led families from claiming public housing assistance, saying it’s unfair to hundreds of thousands of Americans who are stuck on waiting lists.

Housing and Urban Development notified Congress Wednesday of the new rule, kicking off a schedule of publication and notice and comment that could have the plan finalized later this summer.

The plan would scrap Clinton-era regulations that allowed illegal immigrants to sign up for assistance without having to disclose their status.

Under the new Trump rules, not only would the leaseholder using public housing have to be an eligible U.S. person, but the government would verify all applicants through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, a federal system that’s used to weed illegal immigrants out of other welfare programs.

Those already getting HUD assistance would have to go through a new verification, though it would be over a period of time and wouldn’t all come at once.

“We’ve got our own people to house and need to take care of our citizens,” an administration official told The Washington Times. “Because of past loopholes in HUD guidance, illegal aliens were able to live in free public housing desperately needed by so many of our own citizens. As illegal aliens attempt to swarm our borders, we’re sending the message that you can’t live off of American welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.”

Guatemalan presidential candidate conspired to import coke into US for cartel: feds

A Guatemalan presidential candidate was busted Wednesday by the DEA for conspiring to import “tons of cocaine” into the US for Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s infamous Sinaloa drug cartel — and allegedly attempting to arrange the assassinations of his political rivals, according to prosecutors.

Mario Estrada, 58, was charged in Manhattan federal court following a months-long investigation.

He and another individual, Juan Pablo Gonzalez Mayorga, were arrested Wednesday in Miami and are scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate on Thursday.

They are accused of conspiring to solicit cartel money “to finance a corrupt scheme to elect Estrada president of Guatemala,” according to prosecutors.

“In return, the two allegedly promised to assist the cartel in using Guatemalan ports and airports to export tons of cocaine into the US,” said Geoffrey Berman, attorney for the Southern District of New York, in a statement. “As further alleged, Estrada and Gonzalez attempted to arrange the assassinations of political rivals.”

The pair allegedly conspired to use and possess machine guns throughout their murderous election campaign.

“[Estrada and Gonzalez] directed [confidential sources] to hire hitmen to assassinate political rivals to ensure that Estrada was elected president of Guatemala,” the federal complaint says. “In particular, Estrada and Gonzalez identified specific targets by name and agreed to provide the hitmen with firearms, including AK-47s, to carry out the murders.”

Both men will face a maximum of life in prison, if convicted.

“Thanks to the DEA, Estrada stands no chance of election in Guatemala,” Berman said. “But he and Gonzalez face justice in the United States.”

Rudy Giuliani retweets prominent QAnon supporter

For the past few months, members in and around the Trump administration have danced with the QAnon conspiracy, mostly like accidentally, since the far-right conspiracy that once was confined to the bowels of the internet can now be found just about everywhere.

There was Vice President Mike Pence meeting with a Q supporter, a Q fan visiting the White House, and Trump himself sharing a tweet from a Q account.

Now, President Trump’s lawyer got in on the act. Rudy Giuliani retweeted a meme-heavy video of Trump, which included three popular Q phrases: Patriots Awakened, Anons, and #WWG1WGA, which stands for “where we go one, we go all.” The account that shared the video also included the same #WWG1WGA in their profile.

While it’s likely that Giuliani, who is as unsavvy a Twitter user as there is, wasn’t aware of the greater significance of the account and the hashtags, Q fans on Twitter, as they do with everything, took it as A SIGN.

Q has yet to post about the tacit endorsement from Giuliani.

Pelosi, Schumer call for Mueller to publicly testify before Congress

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, outraged over the Trump administration's rollout of special counsel Robert Mueller's report, called on Thursday for Mueller to publicly testify before Congress.

"Attorney General Barr's regrettably partisan handling of the Mueller report, including his slanted March 24th summary letter, his irresponsible testimony before Congress last week, and his indefensible plan to spin the report in a press conference later this morning — hours before he allows the public or Congress to see it — have resulted in a crisis of confidence in his independence and impartiality," Pelosi and Schumer said in a statement Thursday morning.

Democrats have slammed what they say are orchestrated attempts by the Trump administration to control the narrative surrounding the report's release.

Barr is expected Thursday to release a redacted version of Mueller's report detailing the findings of the special counsel investigation. But before the report is first released to Congress, the attorney general will hold a press conference, and President Donald Trump has suggested he may hold a press conference of his own.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that there had been numerous conversations between the White House and the Justice Department ahead of the release of the Mueller report.

Russia may turn Donbas hostilities into full-scale within 60 minutes – Ukraine's General Staff

Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces Gen. Viktor Muzhenko has said Russia may turn Donbas hostilities into a full-scale war within an hour.

"The peculiarity of the Russian-Ukrainian war is that within an hour (!) it may turn into a full-scale conventional conflict involving land, sea, aviation components, and special operations forces. The deployment of Russian troops (they have formed strike groupings along the Ukrainian border, including in Belarus and in the occupied Crimea) is organized in such a way that they may launch active military missions without any special training," he said in an interview with the Ukrainian daily newspaper Fakty.

Muzhenko believes Russia is waiting for chaos to emerge in Ukraine to go for a full-scale offensive.

"According to our calculations and according to those of NATO, these units are 70% ready for combat action. The only question is how the developments in our country allow Russians to act. If there's chaos, this would be the most favorable period to launch such actions," the general said.

Muzhenko believes the interests of the Russian Federation are much broader than the seizure of Crimea and parts of Donbas, and the Russians are trying to restore the territory of the former Soviet Union and become a global player in geopolitics.

In addition, according to Muzhenko, Russia needs Ukraine's industrial defense potential to ultimately increase its own capabilities.

"We have enterprises that supplied components, parts, weapon systems for the Soviet, and then Russian army. Russia is lacking them now, and this is the reason why their rearmament programs are dragging. This is about missile systems, power-plant units, engines for ships and helicopters of relevant classes, which we manufacture. So they have a number of serious motivations for offensive aggressive actions," Muzhenko added.

If elected president, Zelensky is not going to sign the law on amnesty for the militants of the so-called "Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics."
