Mueller report summary for pgs 171 to 180Petr Aven unsuccessfully tries to set up a back channel through Richard Burt to Trump's Transition team. Burt finds the request highly unusual yet proceeds to ask fellow CNI member/president Dimitri Simes to set up a meeting w/ Kushner. Simes smartly declines due to ongoing Russia/Trump issues.

An email from 12/22/16 Burt recounted said conversation for Aven, (sidenote email contains no names) Burt notes his willingness to discuss the subject of "Project A" again after the New Year, he also references a "very influencial party" & a "trusted 3rd party".

During questioning Burt admitted Project A was the backchannel issue, that the "very influencial party" was Simes & that the "trusted 3rd party" was a total fabrication.

Burt also notes that the Trump Team was NOT interested in creating a back channel only Simes was & he was creating an illusion of willingness by mentioning the aforementioned "trusted 3rd party".

Aven responded the same day signaling his understanding.

Aven claims this response indicated he didn't want outreach yo continue.

Burt speaks to Aven later on & further explains the hard pass on creating channels as current climate made it impossible, (Redacted portion is likely an offer to revisit the subject at a later date), Burt claims not to recall discussing Aven's request w/ Simes, nor anyone else, again.

1st Q 2017 Aven, Russian Officials & Putin meet. Aven reports his unsuccessful attempts to build relations w/ Trumps admin.

Putin asks Aven about his efforts to create a channel again at the next several Quarterly meetings.

Aven informs Putin about being questioned by FBI re: his backchannel attempts, Putin appeared not to care.

December of 2016 After being fired from Trump team Carter Page continues efforts to persue business opportunity in Moscow, Russia.

12/9/16 Page dines w/ NES employees Shlomo Weber & Andrej Krickovic. Dvorkovich makes a short appearance at Webers behest, while there he asks Page about starting a dialogue between Russia & the U.S. he also asks Page to set up a connection to Trumps transition team.

Michael Flynn acting upon his authority as incoming National Security Advisor for President-elect Donald Trumps transition team became the primary conduit to mediate what are tense global issues re: Isreali settlements and impending sanctions on Russia. During which time many on the transition team spoke with other Nations leaders re: Israel.

Michael Flynn's Russian contact was Russian Ambassador Kislyak, whom Jarrod Kushner felt had no power in Russian gov.

12/29/16 the outgoing Obama admin publicly announces sanctions against Russia causing a flurry of communications between Trump's transition team senior officials.

Kislyak tried to initiate contact with Flynn for 2 days starting 12/28/16

Mcfarland recounts speaking with a few key transition team members re: Russian sanctions impact on relations with U.S. & Russia & that Flynn has a scheduled call with Kislyak. Flynn is hoping to de-escalate this situation with this call. Mcfarland updates Trump & team on current situation w/ Russia.

12/30/16 Russia responds to Sanctions publicly.

Mcfarland transmits info to transition team re: Flynn's call w/ Kislyak, except for the sanctions talks as Flynn does not want it to seem like he's getting in Obama's way.

12/31/16 Mcfarland speaks w/ Flynn about meeting w/ Trump & the call, he assures her Russia will not escalate the situation & indicated the desire to better relations with the U.S. as Kislyak stated in his call this day.

Flynn recalls speaking to Mcfarland but not other team members regarding the sanctions.
