I'm a longtime area resident. That's where Oil Island Esther was located before the huge storm waves of the Winter of 1982-1983 demolished it. Instead of rebuilding it, they replaced it with a nearby oil platform named Esther. Photo of oil platform Esther attached, with waves breaking over the old oil island Esther.

That's my belief. There would have been a pipeline running from it to the coast, also.
