Have you every considered how accurately the difference between oppressive authoritarianism (bad) and liberty and freedom (good) is portrayed in the Harry Potter film "The Order of the Phoenix"? When I watch that film, I have a hard time understanding how J.K Rowling can be a flaming liberal. She so clearly depicts the difference between what liberals are like (Umbridge and the corrupt Ministry of Magic) and what conservatives are like (Dumbledore and his followers). The liberals continue to heap more and more restrictions on the students until they are essentially in a dystopic world (like "1984"). Then, as the oppressors meet more and more resistance from the ones they are oppressing, they push harder until, at last, they are willing to do bodily harm to the ones they oppress in order to make them conform to their will. In the movie, this climax comes when Umbridge is willing to illegally torture Harry to get information out of him. Thank goodness the movie ends up with the good guys revolting and overcoming the bad guys.

I have always seen a lot of parallels in this movie to our current time (and many other times in the past) where the liberals get increasingly "intolerant" of anything they disagree with. Like today, they put more and more restrictions on speech, thoughts and actions that go against their goals. Hopefully, a time will come soon when we (the good guys) revolt and throw off the oppressors and restore real freedom and liberty to everyone.

Here is the climatic scene in the movie showing how "crazy" Umbridge becomes insisting that the "ends" justify any means to achieve the goals.
