I wrote up a post on her back in March, but haven't fully pursued it.

Rowling has always seemed a bit "off" to me. I read the whole HP series and found it engaging as easy reading but also strangely nefarious and too "clean". Despite all of the "magic" the "message" is simply to OBEY and follow the path you are given. Contrast HP with Frodo in LOTR. HP is somehow the chosen one from the start, whereas Frodo rises to the occasion: "I will take the ring though I do not know the way." I suspect part of the game is to make "magic" and such things seem utterly fantastical and to make it seem ridiculous that powers behind the scenes actually believe in dark occultism. I wouldn't have believed this myself not so long ago, but now it seems to make a lot of sense. I suspect many of the "liberals" who veer into authoritarianism are dupes of more evil sorts.
