Much like New Orleans, a distinct cultural shift occurs as you travel anywhere north and west of central California. And, the climate is remarkably milder than one might expect along the Pacific Ocean. Couple that with this newfound freedom to smoke grass whenever you like, plus a government that is perpetually fiscally outta-control, and voila! The perfect conditions for rampant homelessness and entitlement vs (arguably undeserved) rational American "exceptionalism." Blaming 'tech' is moot because it's all fueled by Wall St/Hollywood/Goldman Sachs/BofA/Wells Fargo/WSJ/Investor's Business Daily, etc. Hardly any real hands-on concern regarding the conventional stock-and-trade of urban planning.
The only question we have in the other continental 48, is when the fuck are the bulk of you native Californians going to run for the exits?
