Many (normal, brainy, imaginative, undrugged, heathyโ€ฆ) people see simulacra.

Sometimes a simulacrum is something that your mind's analog computer has grokked as a result of digesting myriad below-the-threshhold-of-awareness inputs, that involuntarily comes into consciousness and makes you aware of something important. Sometimes the insight almost seems to come from outside your mind but it's just a function of the very-effective unconscious processing. So a simulacrum might remind you of a person or event that occurred at the specific place where you see it. Once you see it, you can't "unsee" it.

It's not a neurosis. It can be a valuable aspect of mental functioning.
