I think it's very strange that Tanit (symbol of fertility and child sacrifice, often pictured with hands or with arms outstretched) is also the symbol of World Aids Day.
I'm not a graphics guy but I made the two images to show the similarities.
Always with the ribbon/ankh shape and the hands outstretched.
There are even similarities to the Gloria Vanderbilt image - and we all know what happened to her defenestrated son.
Tanit was a Punic and Phoenician goddess, the chief deity of Carthage alongside her consort Baal-Hamon.
Child sacrifice The origins of Tanit are to be found in the pantheon of Ugarit , especially in the Ugaritic goddess Anat (Hvidberg-Hansen 1982). There is significant, albeit disputed, evidence, both archaeological and within ancient written sources, pointing towards child sacrifice forming part of the worship of Tanit and Baal Hammon.

Tanit, Inanna, Ishtar
Even in the ancient times, it was a common knowledge that these are three different names for the same goddess. A Phoenician text was discovered, equating Tanit with Ishtar โ the queen of heaven. Nowadays it is not a secret that the word for Easter comes directly from Ishtar.

Happy Ishtar frens.
Why would they choose Tanit for World Aids Day?
I would love some help digging moar on this if any Anon feels up to it.
Here's some further reading on 'Hands of Tanit' or the 'Hidden hand'.
