While what they are doing is legal on its face…he was a felon with a gun, which is separate from the activities of the group. The militia should be careful to be sure they are indeed stopping those in the act of committing a felony. They will no doubt need to be careful of being set up with innocent people. But the headlines for this incident are very misleading. They want people to “at a glance” think it’s tied to just being a militia member. Feds have been trying to tamp down on armed militias for decades with this sort of narrative.
