The Canada Revenue Agency in 2017-18 wrote off $2.7 billion in taxes owed. That's the largest single-year sum written off by the CRA since the $2.8 billion it abandoned in both 2014-15 and 2013-14.

Knights of Columbus Pledge $100,000 to Victims of Sri Lanka Easter Massacre
“The Knights of Columbus stands in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka during this time of trial,” said Carl Anderson, supreme knight of the Catholic charitable organization, in a statement Monday. “Terrorist attacks like those on Easter Sunday are the acts of those who reject the sanctity of life, human rights and religious freedom.”
“In addition to our prayers, the Knights of Columbus is sending $100,000 to Cardinal Ranjith in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for his use in the rebuilding and repair of his Christian community in the aftermath of this act of terrorism,” Mr. Anderson said.
Another $35,000 was pledged by the Hungarian government through its State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians. The money is intended as “emergency aid to the severely injured survivors and the orphaned children of the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka,” according to State Secretary, Azbej Tristan.

Federal Judge Rules Flint Residents Can Sue EPA Over Water Crisis
As Flint, Michigan, marks five years since the city's deadly water crisis began, a federal judge ruled in favor of residents who want to sue the federal government for not acting promptly to ensure the city had clean drinking water.
Residents filed suit against the EPA in 2017, demanding $722 million in damages and arguing that the agency was able to inform the city that its drinking water was contaminated months before it finally issued an emergency order.
The ruling is the latest victory for victims of the crisis, which was linked to at least 12 deaths from Legionnaires disease and put residents, especially children, at risk for long-term neurological and cognitive disorders. Earlier this month a class-action lawsuit against former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder was allowed to proceed, and an appellate court ruled in January that city and state officials can be sued as well.

American Bumblebee facing 'imminent extinction' in Canada:
Researchers at York University have determined that the American Bumblebee, a species that can be found across Southern Ontario, is critically endangered and facing ‘imminent extinction’ in Canada – the highest and most at-risk classification before extinction.
“This bumblebee species now has reduced overall range,” says MacPhail in the release.
The bees used to be found from Windsor, Ont. to Ottawa and into Quebec.
“It is now only found in some core areas and has experienced a 37 percent decrease in overall range,” she says.
“Now that we have assessed the extent of the decline we can look more closely…to design an effective conservation management plan so that this species does not disappear from Canada forever,” says Colla.
